range trip with pictures

Back to the range today with my Remington 700 (300 win mag), and my
Daniel Defense M-4 ( 16 inch barrel ).

I cleaned the barrels on both rifles before this trip so it took about 10 - 15 rounds through both before they settled down and started grouping well.

This was my first really serious attempt at long range with the Daniel Defense, and
it frankly surprised me . It has a Vortex 1-6X strike eagle 30mm on Vortex base and rings. It has a Geissle SSA-E trigger which is a huge improvement on the horrible mil spec trigger it came with.

I know lots of you routinely shoot much better than this , but I was a pretty happy guy when I left the range today.

100 yards.

The M-4 only has a Vortex strike eagle 1-6X 30 mm scope. I did change the horrible
mil spec trigger with a geissle SSA-E though. What really suprised me about that
group is, the fairly large reticle completely covered the bulls eye.

It took about 10 - 15 rounds through both rifles before they settled down and started
grouping well. ( I cleaned both barrels before this range session ).

The Remington heats up pretty quickly after about 3 rounds, and seems to need about
5 minutes before it groups that well again.

The Daniel Defense does not seem to be as sensitive to heat but it tends to vertically string shots when it really heats up.
