So second post goes here.
Putting together a custom build, already own a Sako Quad 22lr, Rem 700 Varmint 308W.
I have been reading everything I can get my hands on regarding which caliber to choose. It's not gonna be one of the bigger .30. As much as I would like a 338LM the components are expensive.
So I went down a notch, and in Europe the 6.5x55 is a very popular (yawn) round. Its like a beige volvo.
Now I am just getting into handloading, so there are some in the 6.5mm family that look interesting 6.5x47 and the 6.5x284. Both seem to keep supersonic at 1000m+. The question is which one? I have heard alot about barrel burner when it comes to the .284 is this true? And is the .47 good at these distances?
If anyone else has a caliber they can recommend?
The build will look something like this :
McMillan A5
Krieger SS ~26" , 0.9
RH 702RT action (similar to surgeon) magazine fed
Jewell trigger
20 MOA picatinny
NF 3.5-15x50 F1
