Pressure Signs Help Needed

Pertinent info:
Rem 700 LH
280 AI
162 ELD-M .020 off lands
H4831

I need help reading pressure signs:

Case on bottom 56.8 grains 2770 fps which should be safe
Case on top 61.5 grains 3041 fps makes me nervous because the Nosler manual says 59.0 is max

Both have ejector marks, help me understand.

Both your cartridges show signs of extruded or cratering of the primers plus they also seem flattened out which are signs of overpressure. Here is a link to a good article on analyzing pressure signs.

Looks like both have some primer cratering as well. Both show pressure signs. Some guns just don't have the ability to run up to book max. @shooter7 has a Christiansen arms mesa 300 win mag that is the same way. I'm curious as to why though.

remington 700 unless pin has been bushed will always crater the primer and that in no way is a sign of over pressure they all do it.. how is bolt lift on high end ?

can you get better pictures?? im not seeing anything that screams back er off

The cratering from what I've read is from space around the firing pin on Remingtons. Supposedly there's a bushing that you can have fit by a gunsmith. I'm just confused. I guess I'll load to minimum and see what it looks like...

I can never read primer signs accurately, which is why I go more with bolt lift.

Brass originated as Nosler Trophy Grade 160 AB factory ammo fired through the subject rifle. This is the first time it has been reloaded. So it has been fired 2x. First time as factory, and this time.

Bolt lift was normal.

Are you experiencing a hard bolt lift or a does it feel like either are sticking in the chamber?

I bet your 61.5 gr load is probably at max based on your FPS. I got 160 accubonds to 3060 with reloder 26, and 140 accubonds to 3200 using 4831sc.

Also you have to know that the Nosler loaded ammo uses different brass then their brass you buy in the boxes. I don't know why they do it. But make sure you don't mix the two, they have different capacity and will mess you up bad.

Are you neck sizing?

Primers ain't flat
I'm with Elk338 on primer flow I have to bush all my rems
No heavy bolt lift so I'm not on the high pressure side

Type S FL dies with .309 neck bushing
