275 H&H Magnum problem.

It uses .278 bullets. My pet load of Woodleighs and 4320 over CCI magnum LRPs always works fine.

Ran low on .278s and no one has them. Found a box of 154 gr .274 Hornadys and loaded same load.

"Click". Ejected case, no bullet in it. Case was full of charred 4320 some loose, some in lumps.

The bullet was stuck in the throat and easily knocked out with cleaning rod.

Mystery to me.

Lack of or to little neck tension/bullet hold. This allowed the bullet to move out of the case when the primer fired. Powder did not burn correcty as pressure was low or missing.

If the case neck can be sized smaller and not use the expander, the smaller diameter bullet may work? The bullet will ride on the lands and allow blow by of the hot gas. Not good.

Best to find the correct diameter bullets. https://ammoseek.com/

I would place a back order with Midwayusa. https://www.midwayusa.com/bullets/b...&Ns=p_metric_sales_velocity%7C1&Ntpc=1&Ntpr=1

I'm confused by some of the numbers. Maybe they are typos? Either way agree still sounds like too little resistance holding the bullet.

Contaminated powder? Liquid left in case from washing? Spray lube used for sizing, getting into the case? Tumbling media left inside the case? Just a few more guesses.
