Powder for 22-250

Would like to know what powders members have used and can recommend that I try. I don't plan to use bullets over 60 grains As it is a factory 1/14" twist I believe in a weatherby vanguard. It likes factory 55 grain soft point winchester ammo Thanks you all for your help. Tribb

for 55 grain I always start with Varget, Benchmark or H 380 I have always found good speed and accuracy with these three

I use W760 with 52 grain Sierra's with good speed and accuracy.

I got good results with H380/Varget but nothing could touch the accuracy and speed of IMR4064. 1-12 twist and 50gr VMaxes........bugholes

IMR 4064 was the first powder I tested in my 22-250 back in 1980 and the only powder I've used since. Amazing accuracy with 52 SMK.

Varget and IMR4064 shoot well in my 12 twist Savages with 55 grain bullets.

IMR 8208 XBR is very accurate and fast with 55grain bullets in my 22" 1:14" twist Sauer barrel. For my three 24" barrelled 22.250 rifles I keep coming back to IMR 4895. Since 1978 I have tried lots of different powders but the two above seem to produce the best accuracy/velocity combination.

The original barrel on my Tikka Varmint 22-250 was 1-14". It shot the Sierra 55 grain Blitzking with Varget really good. The new barrel is a 1-12" and I ended up with a Sierra 60 grain Varminter and Varget.

I've owned one 22/250 and loaded for 2 more. All were 1/14 twist. As far as accuracy was concerned H-380 was the best in all three with 50-52 gr bullets.

Varget and benchmark served me well with 50-60 gr projectiles.

As has been mentioned, Varget, imr 4895, and 8208 are going to be hard to beat. You'll get close to 38-3900, depending on barrel length. The 14 twist will keep you to a bout 63 grains, then theyll get a little squirmy, but theres some great 224 bullets out there now. If you can find them. Good luck, enjoy.

IMR4895 was my go to powder and 52gn SMK was the bullet. I tried some of the other fast IMR's, like IMR3031 and IMR4320, along with Hodgdon H380, Varget and H414. I tried with several bullets to get N133 to shoot and finally succeeded with the 52gn A-Max. W748 was a good powder also.
