With the talk about barrel life are you that concerned! Why not as nothing wrong on making something last as long as possible, right? If I had only 1 gun with that cartridge, then I'd say "don't quit on me now" barrel. Having a life of 1k or within 2 hundred or so of that doesn't bother me. Some say barrels are a consumable? Having many firearms with the same cartridge makes barrels last a long time, unless you're 1 of those that shoot the same gun with 500 rounds a week it might be different? Are you that concerned?

I could care less about barrel life. I run my rifles hot and fast and don't plan on changing. I'm on my third barrel in my hottest setup (22-250AI @ 4870 fps) and averaging around 1300 rounds before accuracy suffers. That equates to about five years usage. I could play it safe and probably extend life to 1500 and gain another year, but where's the fun in that.

My job is seasonal. My only concern is getting the barrel or rifle sent off before I leave for work so it's done when I get back.

I have never factored in barrel life on a decision regarding cartridge selection. If I lived in the US, then the Allen Magnums would be my number one choice for what I got involved in around 2017, but being hampered by action selection I had to go for wildcats based on the largest case I could get to fit, which is the 416 Rigby case.
My 338-416 Rigby Improved 45° is at 868 rounds according to my notes, it is very tired, has about 3/4" of throat erosion now, has had 2 setbacks and another isn't an option. Still shoots sub MoA, but is no longer acceptable for 2,000 metre shooting, the throat just won't give me low ES anymore. The next barrel was going to be chambered for 33XC, but life changed that.

...the only plague most shooters are facing the days is COST and AVAILABILITY of components in my opinion. I remember the days not long ago when you had to wait in line at most shooting benches at all my local clubs, nothing but cobwebs at all of them over the last few years...never thought I'd see the day but it's here..sad sad days

I factor in barrel life. I see no harm in it and I'd prefer my barrels to last. It's a personal choice with pros and cons. It's up to the individual to come up with their own priorities.

Some of us just want something different to try. I don't shoot enough to wear out a barrel before I have moved on to something different. I really haven't jumped into the barrel burner market yet. It sounds like fun though.

Barrel life has never been a factor for me, although I do not shoot high intensity cartridges.
My worst is a 22-250 that gets shot little. To many rifles to play with.

How do you keep track of shots fired...????

Groups get wider, throat looks like southern Arizona blacktop and what once was a .150" lead has become. 250" just to start. Shot recording is by taking X amount of ammo at range and right down number of shots each time including hunting OR track reloads.

The anxiety of barrel life erased when I started building my own rigs. Prior to that I bought factory rifles and pretty much thought the whole gun was toast if the barrel was toast. Now it's a fun experiment to see how long different cartridges last.

I factor it in, i try to do things to mitigate it, like using slower cooler running powders when possible and I use Hex boron nitride on several cartridges. Not shooting long strings and heating the barrel up. It's less of a concern now that I buy everything with the intention of using prefits and being setup to do them myself.

Yeah, just recently I was made aware of the flame temp charts for powders. Separate from the burn rate chart we are so used to looking at. There can exist a 500 F. burn temp between the cooler & hotter powders.
