At the time I bought my 6.5 CM Browning X-Bolt Pro rifle Browning didn't offer it in 6.5 PRC.

I live in Nevada so now I think the 6.5 PRC makes a lot more sense than the 6.5 CM.
Yeah, I do shoot 6.5 CM with my Ruger Precision Rifle for competition and it's fine for paper at long ranges. Was banging steel to 960 yards yesterday with it. FUN!

So anyhow I think I'll have no trouble selling the 6.5 CM X-bolt Pro. I see they are not in big supply right now. Even put my name on a backorder for the 6.5 PRC X-Bolt Pro where I buy.

But I'll also likely sell my .300 Win mag A-Bolt Stainless Stalker as well since the 6.5 PRC will handle bull elk at 400 to 500 yards. At my "advanced" age I think it may be wise to begin thinning out the safe.

I’ve tried that “thinning out the safe” a couple times. Dang thing just gets refilled somehow!

Scrap the plans for the 6.5 prc and build a a 6.5 Sherman Short.

    jd,
What's so great about the 6.5 Sherman? Can't walk into Sportsman's warehouse or Bass Pro Shops and find that very rare ammo. (AND I'd have to build a custom rifle for it.)

Pushes a 140 grain pill at 3200 that’s all. I see the prc at 150 FPS more than the creedmoor really doesn’t do anything for me personally. I did not realize you were only looking for factory options. And I suggested the 6.5 Sherman Short not the 6.5 Sherman.

    jd,
So what kind of barrel life could I expect from the Sherman Short at 3200 fps?
I'm thinking that is an overbore cartridge (burns a lot of powder in the barrel instead of the case) despite what the Sherman website says.

Been looking at it online. An interesting version of the 6.5 Sherman.
But yeah, I want a factory rifle and readily available ammo. Trying to keep it simple.

I’ve got picked 1286 rounds on one so far and it’s still shooting in the .4’s.

I think the 6.5 prc is a good choice. It will do everything you need.

The PRC is a lot faster than a creed with handloads.
I spoke with a shooter in my squad at a match who is shooting 140's at 3100 with H1000 from a 26" barrel.
I'm getting 3050 with 147's in a 25" barrel, with a light load in my 6.5 saum using 3 grains more than he was running in his PRC.

I wouldn’t call the PRC ammo readily available at this point.

Edit* not that I dislike the cartridge. I think it will be an upgrade from your CM, it’s just not as easy to find factory ammo

The case capacity on the 6.5 SS is a little larger than a straight 6.5 PRC and until I see some pressure tested data for it, I believe it's also loaded to slightly higher pressures and that's what gives the velocity increase. The higher pressures don't necessarily give traditional pressure signs because of the case design, brass quality and the fact that they're all custom built rifles. That's not a cheap shot at the 6.5 SS or any of his other designs, it's just a reality.

The 6.5 PRC is a great round and so are all the other moderate capacity 6.5s (6.5x284, 6.5-06AI, 6.5 SAUM, 6.5 WSM, 6.5 SS, 6.5 SST, 264 WM, etc.) which will all be within 100-150 fps of each other. Pick the stamp you want on the side of your barrel and no critter will ever know the difference. Looking for a factory gun with good quality factory ammo makes that list pretty short and leaves you with the 6.5 PRC, and that's not a bad thing at all!
