Ocw load development help

hows it going guys new to the forum. I've been trying figure out this OCW load development method. Shooting a 6.5-300wby 142g ABLR with retumbo. Started out with .5gr increments from 74-78.5. Looked like I found the node between 77.5-78. So went back and made fine adjustments from 77.3,77.5,77.7,78.0. Any help would be appreciated. I haven't played with seating depth yet.

I'm new to OCW, but on the second pic it looks like the scatter node is at 77. I would try 78.2. Maybe 78.4 as well with without changing anything else.

i think I'm gonna play with 77.7. 77.5, 77.7 and 78 seem to hold the best same poi. But thanks for the recommendation

Good luck. If you use ocw, be sure to read up on scatter nodes. The creator of the methods states that finding the scatter node is probably the most accurate way to find the actual node.

Thanks for the help. Had a member pretty well versed in ocw look at the targets and he came up with 77.7. 77 and 78.5 seem to be the scatter nodes.

Honestly, I dont like the looks of those... did you start by loading to just kissing the lands first or what is your jump situation because I would want far better grouping to feel like you were getting it right.

They are loaded to book specs 3.590 Weatherby rifle I can't touch the lands with it.

I would take what you think your best charge was and do a seating depth test. Doesn't look like your even close. You would be able to see things a lot more clear. If you have had good groups from the rifle before, then you know it can shoot. When i did this in the past it was very easy to see it come in and out of tune. This picture is of different charge weights on the bottom. Top was seating for a different rifle. I went back with .2 grains more in 3 more charges and they all shot the same as the bottom right. Or very close to it. Same elevation. I can't shoot groups that small very often

Yeah that's the next step is seating depth with it and go from there i appreciate the help. Yeah that what was hard for me was the groups were so open because of the seating depth. Yeah the rifle can shoot 3/4" groups with factory ammo.

i like the look of 77.5 grains. Elevation was consistent. I'd start experimenting with depth there.

Got to agree, based on group size I do not think you can draw any reasonable conclusions.
Try a seating depth test and work again from there. That is why I have never liked ocw.

That's the plan with 77.5 seating depth and go from there. The ablrs seem to be very temperamental with seating depth. And the bigger groups could be also attributed to a hot barrel.

If you are shooting fast enough for "hot" barrel to be an issue, then slow down. You are not getting any meaningful info and kust wasting barrel and money.
