NP-R2 Range Estimation

Here is a quick check I did the other day to make sure my brain was still functioning properly.
I used the 5.5-22 R2 to range a 5-inch object. I ranged it using a laser and the R2 and found to be 52 yards.

The math;

(22x) Half target size/ number of lines…or….2.5"/4.8 lines = 52 yards

(11x) Same formula, except you divide the result by the same amount the power used is divided by.

22/11 = 2
22/5.5 = 4 etc, etc.

(11x) would be 2.5"/2.4 = 10.416/2 = 52 yards

(5.5x) would be 2.5"/1.2 = 2.083/4 = 52 yards

This means if you are ranging at 3.5x on your mil-dot, 15x divided by 3.5x = 4.2857.

Now you can expect the target to measure 4.29 times the mils than what it would at 15x.

If it measured 1 mil (3.44 moa) at 15x, I am sure you will see it as 4.3 mils (14.75 moa)at 3.5x, not even close to 10 moa as they suggest.

At 5x, I come up with 10.32 moa spacing.

If 15x equals 1 mil or 3.44 moa, 15x is three times what 5x is, so 3 * 3.44 = 10.32 moa.

This is why 3.5x = 14.74 moa spacing.
