Nosler or Bergara problems

If you want to try other factory ammo Federal has their Terminal Ascent ammo in stock on their website. Its supposed to be good stuff. Just an idea. Good luck
Is that stuff loaded in chrome cases? I looked at it and don't really want to spend the money unless I can reload them

Wow this thread got a lot of attention since I last looked at it, update I went shooting today and shot the ammo that chambered acceptably. There were no ejector marks and bolt lift was normal with these. I'm leaning towards it being an ammo issue.
I'm thinking it's a rifle issue. But hard telling not being there.

In any case a Bergara rep said they'd help and Nosler said they'd trade out the ammo so sounds like it'll all workout.

If a friend of yours has a die you might want to resize some of the difficult cases and see if that clears it up.

The easiest way to determine if it's a chamber issue is to run a go-gauge in the chamber. I just had to 'adjust' a factory Rem 700 Sendero in 300WM because the bolt wouldn't close on it. Had to run the reamer in .003" to get it to close freely.
Send the rifle back if a go-gauge fails to chamber. Even slight resistance is a bad sign.
Checking the ammo is also simple, run it in a comparator and measure it.
I check all ammo, factory and handloads with RCBS Precision Mics, best tool you can get for measuring brass as you can measure the shoulder datum even with a bullet in place.

Cheers.

Friend of mine just bought a new Bergara in 300 Win mag. Had the same problem. Factory ammo from different companies wouldn't chamber. He had to send the rifle back to Bergara for warranty work. No way he will have it back in time for hunting season. Sounds to me like Bergara is having some quality control issues.
I've also had problems with a recently purchased bergara B14 hunter in 300 win mag. Couldn't get it to group at 1 MOA or below no matter what I tried. Finally gave up and sent the rifle back to the NZ bergara dealer. I have to say that their after sales service was nothing short of outstanding. They had it thoroughly tested by a professional gunsmith and then promptly offered to replace the rifle. No BS and no mucking around. They didn't have a 300 win mag in stock so offered me a 6.5 PRC with a free upgrade to the extreme hunter model! All manufacturers have the odd unit that fails and the real test is how they respond when this happens. Bergara came through with flying colours.

That's a reassuring testimony

Headspace gauges are on order from reamerrental.com

If you are going to hand load the 28, see if you can get a couple of pounds of RE33 to start with. I have 2 Fierce brand rifles that LOVE the RE33 with lots of different styles & weights of bullets.
I know I won't get love on this post from all the guys shooting temp stable powders from Hodgdon in their 28's, but for me the RE33 has given top velocities, lowest ES's and best accuracy in both of these rifles I have
All I've been able to find online is reloder 26 which I believe I heard should be good for the 28 (gonna double check that)

Did you see that @Nate T asked you to contact him? He is a superior contact that works for Bergara. I dealt with him on a 6.5PRC issue. Stand up guy and service is impeccable.

I know of 3 Bergara rifles being sent back for refunds here in Australia at the same shop I do work for. They were all different models ranging from the basic model up to the top model. All had issues with tight chambers. One of them had a broken bolt shroud as well.
I feel sorry for those getting the duds.

Cheers.

Depends on what bullet you're shooting. I'd say it's too fast for the 28 Nosler and any bullet that makes sense to shoot out of that large or a cartridge. Personally I don't want to shoot anything under 175 (really I want to stay well over 175), to me that's just not what that cartridge is best suited for, I also have a 1:8.
