I am a big fan of 130 Grn. Ballistic tips in my .270 Win deer rifle, strictly for use on White tail deer. I have recently loaded the Nosler 150 Grn. Accubond Long Range,(ABLR ) in my Weatherby Mark V , with 26 Inch factory barrel, in 270 Weatherby Mag. for a two day session at the Bang Steel Shooting School. Loaded to modest 2900 fps with 66.7 grns, the Rifle/ Load combo performed extremely well at ranges for 720 ;860 ;1000; and 1200 yards. Hitting Steel targets again and again. However, this load ,and the 2 day school session was to prepare me for a Whitetail Deer Hunt in North Carolina, where the Soy Bean fields will offer a possible 500-yard shot. I do not know how this 150Grn. ABLR bullet will perform hitting a deer at 500 yards ,with 2127 fps/and 1500 pounds of energy. Is this bullet to tough for whitetail? Should I increase the velocity to 3000 fps or even 3100 fps Muz Vel. to insure rapid expansion. Anyone with experience with this bullet in a Hunting application ,please give your opinion. Thanks Guys

The ABLR 150 in 270 will be perfect at the ranges you mentioned. Just hope you don't get a really close shot. They are designed to expand down to 1300 fps which is lower than most bullets at about 1800 fps. They are reports of them blowing up and not penetrating at high velocity.
For your applacation I would not hesitate to use them.

Mr. Sedancowboy , Thank You for that!!! Glad to know it's not a tough bullet. I much prefer a bullet that completely explodes inside the deer.

What's your twist rate? The 150 gr ABLR typically will not stabilize well in 10 twist.

Hi coop, Yes ,your right. It's a 1979 rifle with a Weatherby Mark V factory #2 , 26inch length, in a 10 twist. I did not expect anything great when shooting the 150 Grn. ABLR's , but I think it will acceptable for Deer out to 500 yards. I really did hit all the steel plates at the Bang Steel Shooting school. Had only 2 misses in 80 rounds. Of the two misses I had ,in two days, one miss was due to a bad wind call by the instructor at 820 yards. It was very cold and windy that day . He just misjudged that one, and apologized. Ill just have to work with what I have. Thanks Buddy !!!!

According to Nosler, the 150AB, 150ABLR and the 160 Partition will shoot fine in 1:10. I have shot the 150 ABLR out of 1:10 .270Win Shaw barrel with good results. Nosler would change the twist rate on their load data page if these bullets required faster twist.
