Bought a used custom 338 Norma. The rifle builder used MRP powder for the load development. Any idea what a good powder to start with would be since MRP is discontinued?

I think I read on here somewhere Alliant R-22 is the equivalent. but PLEASE don't take my word for it. Use the search in upper right hand corner for MRP similar to R22. I think the thread was from 2018.

Yes MRP and RL 22 are virtually identical.

Yes, I agree with RL22.
IMR7828 wouldn't get you into trouble. It's not the same but it is a little slower burning powder meant for similar applications. Working up slowly of course.

Contact Norma or find powder close to MRP's burn rate.

I copied and pasted this quote below from a post of John Barsness, noted gun writer. The same question came up on the campfire. Take it as you want to take it, but he is usually pretty trustworthy.

Howdy, Vihtavuori 560, would be a good choice. It's close on the burn chart.
