Has anyone worked with 165 gr interbonds for the 300 wtby? I am new to long range shooting, rifles, and handloading. I am looking for a good ELK round for my SAKO 75 (26 in with 1/11 twist). My hunting buddy also has a 300 wtby in a Vanguard (24 in with 1/10 twist). We would be using our own dies, but trying a variety of loads for these two guns. Thanks for any and all help.

Hi Tom,

Here is what I load for my .300wby in Weatherby Ultra Lightweight rifle, 26" barrel, 1-10" twist.

Load - 1
Norma MRP - 86gr
Barnes TSX - 180gr
Average group 1.3 @ 100yards

Load - 2
Norma MRP - 84.0gr
Nosler Accubond - 200gr
Average group 1.125 @ 100yards

Load-2, with the 200gr. bullet is my choice for Elk. Its a little more accurate and bigger bullet is better for big bull elk. If your shootin little ones, the 180's will do. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

By the way if you dont't have any MRP powder, you can substitue Reloader22. Its just about the identicle burn rate.

Let us know how your groups turn out.
Take care,

I shoot 165 gr Swift Scirocco bullets out of my 300 Wby Ulw. I get great accuracy out of either 85 gr of H4831SC or 92 gr of H1000. I don't have the chrony numbers in front of me but they are both plat shooting. I have killed a bull at 300 with the 4831 load and a mulie buck at 525 with the same.

Hey Wunderdog,

How do you like your .300wby ultralight? Do you have a brake on it?

And what is the group size that you get with your h4831 load?

I just may have to try that load.

Thanks in advance,
Vic

I have a 300 WBY Accumark with a 28 in tube W/ break.
My most accurate load is also a fast one. Here it is 84.5 gr of IMR 7828 Wby brass Fed 215 mag primer, 180 gr Barnes TSX 3228 FPS .5 moa at 100 yds and I shot a 2.5 moa at 300 yds tonight with it. Very accurate and fast load.
