Newbie with some questions

Just a small point. One of the local gun shops here in WA ordered a specific caliber Savage Weather Warrior for me for a tick under $700. $650 used may be a touch high when you can get new, never been shot for about the same. You should see what's available local special order as Savage offers some decent calibers in their rifles. Then your choice gets easier.

I would pull $100 from my scope budget if it meant being able to buy new and in a caliber that was my first choice.

Good advice. I think I'm going to go with new and just spend the money on it. It's easy to find .223 and .308 in the rifles I want, but difficult to find them in 6.5 and 300 WSM.

What's going to be the primary difference between 6.5 and 300 WSM? I can look it up on my own of course, but thought I'd get the answer from all of you instead.
