New Zealand Hunting

Scheduled to hunt with GH late July 2022. Have heard nothing good in response that NZ will be open to non residents any time soon. Do not want to rain on anyone's parade, but NZ has been closed. Plus, have little hope it will be open any time soon. Our trip has been scheduled since 2019. Our schedule to hunt was to come during my 75th birthday. Will know more during the 2022 SCI convention in LasVegas.
BTW, with hope all will come to fruition for all that have trips scheduled. MTG
Keep your fingers crossed. Things will start to open up as our vax rates increase. We are up around 73% at the moment and once we are near 90% the promise is that we will begin to get back to a new normal. Don't expect to get in though unless you are double vaccinated.

No sign - YET - for a booster 3rd shot here in New Zealand.
Still getting ∆ infections in our largest city - 45 today after 8 yesterday.
No country in the world has managed to control ∆, so it'll be a while before hunting here is opened up to overseas hunter's.

Have a hunt booked in New Zealand for June but it's not looking good 👎
Sadly its not. Omicron is building and is likely to expand rapidly, although even under our red light status travel and movement is permitted as is mixing. Getting through our border will be your greatest challenge - you won't get near it unless you are double vaxed and boosted. Good luck though 'cos would love to have you here.

Wish this whole Covid thing would just get over in the restrictions for travel. The world medical organizations say that Covid is here to stay just like the flu. Can't keep shutting down everything forever. There is probably more people dying from the flu than Covid now but everything is blamed on Covid.
Jill and I wanted to come to NZ, but looks like that is not going to happen for at least many years.

We are one country that has stayed on top of it so as a country we are a bit touchy about our borders. As for the politics of covid and who's dying of what, well, its probably something to talk about around a beer rather than on here. But in the main our Government's approach has majority support and so far we have kept a lid on it. Each country to their own.

Aloha
Nice stag. Jill is freaking out on the picture. Thanks for any help in advance. Will contact you shortly.
I lived on Oahu for 9 years. One block off of Waikiki Beach and then on Koko Island. Spent most times on the North Shore Sky diving, surfing or on the west coast scuba or back side of Diamond Head night fishing off of the cliffs for Ulua with Tako for bait. Da Kine Ladat!

Aloha
Len & Jill
Someone should also tell you that getting to the big Tahr and Red dear means some serious Apline hiking and climbing.'

You can legally (unless it's changed) hire a helicopter to get you up to elevation, drop you in, and help you get everything out. Outfitters handle those details usually but I think even some of them will "Outfit you" for an unguided hunt.

Had a great buddy down there that was an outfitter for many years but we lost him a few years ago. He did a lot of those kinds of hunts for people.

Also, don't forget the trout fishing, if you skip it you'll hate yourself.

My son went over on a dyi.Its hard getting a gun there if solo, you have to have someone sign off on you.Being Marine was no help.He was on work visa for year and covid hit at roar and messed him up some.He worked all over in ranch program, picked apples 10 hrs a day and what ever.Met whom ever he could and hunted, lived in van.Had the time of his live. One guy took him out ,local. They did 6000 vert that day.He also was wayyyyy back and arrowed tar solo and could killed him,8 river crossings and swimming with 100 #'s on back.

Son also parachuted at 10000 ft, fished, went over a 21' waterfall in raft. You know the usual, kite fished and went out on tiny sail boat

At one TIME!!! Hunted/Fished across the US, Canada, up to Newfoundland, down to Hawaii and Fuji and over the ocean to Africa. Not here anymore for the physical part, but years ago I was one of the top ultra marathon runners, won 50 mile races, Hiked most of the Appalachian Trail many times, would hike the four main 6,500' peaks in TN in a weekend, climbed many mountains with a snow fall of over 7' on Renier in four days including spending a month on Denali. Been through Europe to most Asian Countries -China, Philp, Japan, Keora, Tia, Cambodia, Laos ect. Over 1K Sky Dives and 2K Scuba. (also was a Marine USMC). I guess that's why I have had twelve major surgery repairs on joints with, Titanium Knee, Shoulder, Neck C-2 to C-7 and now have Electrical SCS Spinal Cord Stimulator Implants. I have a lot of fond Hunting/fishing/traveling memories.
Can't keep doing more than the body was designed for. Just like wearing a rifle out.
I now would "may" need a heli to get to most remote places, but am going to keep trying. I May Not Be As Good As I Once Was, But I Am as Good Once as I Ever Was.
