New to me Browning A bolt medallion

Recently traded a Remington 700 7mm rem mag for this beautiful Browning A bolt medallion in 270. I have a history with the A bolt medallion, as it was the first rifle i killed a big game animal with. Came with 7 boxes of ammo so it was definitely hard to pass up. Thoughts and comments on the Browning A bolt? Need some scope ideas for this ole girl.

Over the years Iv'e heard negatives about the A-bolt, mostly regarding cast receivers. The first new rifle I bought for myself was an A-bolt Medallion in 300WM in Kodiak, AK in 1989 and it's still in excellent shape and shoots great. IMO, they are easy packing hunting rifles that preform as they should. No negatives from me.

My old man has had his A bolt medallion since the 80's with zero issues.

Find a "new/er" old Leupold in gloss finish. A-bolts had one of the best bottom metal/mags ever. Good luck.

If the gloss finish offends you, take 0000 steel wool to the finish, it will look like a beautiful satin finish when you are done.

Mine rifle like yours shoots this load into tiny groups:
130g Nosler ballistic tip
58g of R#22
Fed 210
The largest whitetail I have ever killed was this rifle and load

I had a browning Stainless Stalker, first model that shot the 140g Nosler ballistic tips into very, very tiny groups.

Trigger springs on the A bolts are easily upgraded to a lighter spring...if you like that kind of thing.

Here's my scope combo for something to look at, it's a Bushnell (B&L) 4-12x40AO with the ballistic reticle, I do like the looks of the gloss Leupolds for these rifles.

Found a used leupold gloss 4-12! Not i need a set of gloss rings to match.

Changed the stock out for a better takeoff i found. Heres a rough mount with the Leupold 4-12. Just waiting on my gloss scope rings and i can get her sighted it and ready for hunting season this fall.

First gun I bought myself was an A Bolt Stainless Stalker in 30-06. I shot 150 gr Hornady factory ammo out of it. Being young and stupid I sold it to a friend who is still using it. I never had a problem with that gun and it shot great as I'm sure your will to. Enjoy!
