Does any one else make brass for this cartridge?

It's pretty pricey...threw a bunch away a few months ago that I accidentally picked up at the range...wish I had started collecting my junk brass then...I'd still have it.

I think you will find as others have that Lapua bras is generally cheaper than others. I have some for 6.5x284 on it's 6th firing and still going strong have some 260 rem lapua brass that is at 10.

Their quality has been top notch.

I've got a 28" proof barrel on mine that also shows impressive speeds with RL-26. Haven't done any serious load work yet, just pressure and speed tests.

My normal load of 55.5 grains of H1000 with a 140 VLD nets me 3015 fps.

I tested up to 54.8 grains of RL-26 with a 140 amax that clocked in at 3135 fps.

Here's a question to you 6.5-284 vets, what kind of barrel life have you seen? I'm currently sitting right at 1100 rounds and accuracy is still great. I'm guessing run normally (i.e. no crazy long competition type strings), you should see 1500-2000 rounds, maybe more with slower burning powders like H1000, Retumbo, RL-26, etc...

That is almost the exact speed of the exact load (except 140 Nosler) that I get in my 28" Proof barrel...

My situation is similar to yours. I have been shooting three 6.5x284's "normally" using Retumbo, not much different then any of my non-competition rifles I have over 2000 rounds between the three with the highest at just under 1000 rounds, no change in performance with any. The Cooper just shy of 1000, used with Retumbo, maintained at low heat, and free of carbon build up in the chamber still holds .25MOA accuracy, low ES, and no measured throat erosion. Unlike my hot shooting competition rifles which can see a barrel change every one or two seasons, my 6.5x284 hunters/shooters have been running for several years. I expect 1500+ rounds from my rifles but I'm likely not to reach this level for a few more years, particularly shooting all three rifles. One of my buddies used similarly has over 1500 rounds with his 6.5x284 hunter with no change in performance, and, a couple of guys I know from the custom outfits(Gunwerks, BOTW) that do a lot of hunting, shooting, and LR schools with a lot of experience with the 6.5x284 claim barrel life as high as 2000 rounds under hunting/practice conditions, and using the slow burners. While 1500-2000 rounds would be great, frankly, if I had to replace my barrel at 1000 rounds tomorrow, I couldn't squawk much. With over seven years of outstanding "long range" hunting/shooting results, my shot out barrel would get a Vikings funeral.

I am new to this cartridge and I am loving it...

Just measured the case base at the web shooting the 140s @ 3170+fps...no expansion...RL26...Proof Research 28"...so up I go...Have a good node around 3125 fps...

Just got my 150gr Sierra HPBTs...

In my Proof barrel I hit the lands at about 3.210 COAL with the 150s. Loading a ladder @ 3.19" COAL with RL26 for tomorrow...At this COAL the case neck completely holds the bullet with just the boat tail below the neck, shoulder junction. So far...no compressed loads with RL26.

No one has ever explained to me why this case/cartridge is a barrel burner. Is it because it has a short neck? The shoulder is 40 degrees...

Longtooth...it looks like...for the 6.5mm any way...anything bigger than 6.5x55 is considered a over-bore. So by definition it would be called a "barrel burner".

With the new powders I think that's not the case like it used to be.

26 Nosler...26-300wm...26-300wsm I can see a case being made with those.

Good choice with the RDFs...

They fly much better than the Berger 140 Elite Hunters in my barrel...The RDFs have a node in my barrel @ about 3125fps...I think that I can reach the next node with out pressure signs...will find out on my next outing...

The RDFs with RL26...actually makes it like I know how to shoot...

I have two 6.5-284 I shoot a lot of 123 and 139 scenars. I use MRP. lapua brass.

You don't hear much about the 123 Scenars but man do they shoot.
