New Rifle build Please tell me why I should or should not build a 25-06

You would need a long action for the 25-06 but the 22 CM would work and is awesome with hammer bullets zipping at warp speed!!
Not a large selection of bullets in 25 caliber so you may have to switch to 22 CM and use expensive Hammer bullets!

25-06 with a 1:7" 26 inch barrel. I mean I'm shooting mine out to 600 yds with the 115 Berger with 10 twist with great success. And realistically if you're shooting at big game animals past that distance you're probably not using the right tool for the job here. That's 6.5 PRC, 6.8 Western, 7mm or 30 caliber time. My handloads have the 115 Berger cruising at 3230 fps. It gets out to 500 yds in a hurry and mine is only a 6 MOA come up at that distance. I think I'm over 1950 fps at 700 and 1000 ft/lbs energy. That's good enough for killin any mule deer and smaller deer in my experience. Imagine how well it would do with 131 Blackjack. I can only dream for now. Tough decision for you. Good luck!

A little input I have a short action Savage that want to build a new Rifle. I have a .270, 300 wm, 6.5 cm
So I am thinking a 25-06 or a 22 creedmoor I reload so I will need to get brass and Bullets can brass be found for the 25-06?
The 25-06 is a long action cartridge. A 25-284 fits in most SA.
I can attest to the little quarter bore. It's a fine and accurate round. Done by a competent gunsmith, good components and solid reloading practices, you can expect under a 1/2" rifle.
(food for thought)

My savage 25-06 crushes deer! That's my vote hands down.
I've had 5 25-06s and two 257 Bob ackleys. All have been drt on deer & antelope.
Lately of been thinking of building a 25-06 Ackley for a new project. The fast twist 1:7.5 and 1:8 are probably what would be best for the 131 black jacks as far as what I read.
You won't be dissatisfied with the 25-06 on any game.

A lot of good opinions. It's a tough one. There are more "efficient" Cartridges. A shorter cartridge usually means a shorter action, lighter weight, more rigidity, yada yada yada. All that accuracy may be realized from a bench. It doesn't mean you can't have a 25/o6 that can't shoot 1/4" groups.
I have bought rifles because I had ammo for them!!!.
It depends on what you want to do with the gun. My first custom was a 243. If I built a custom gun I wanted to be able to use it for Varmints and big game. The 25 is definitely on the big side, famously used for Rock chucks and almost any big game. I am in Kalifornia and need to use lead Free ammo here for hunting and 25 cal lead free bullets are scarce.
I really like 6mm Bullets. If you notice, even Benchrest shooters are going back to 6 mm from 6.5. My rifle shoots 243 58 gr V-max bullets to over 4000 fps. That is devastating on varmints out to 800 yards or more and I know first hand. . I can load 100 gr bullets and hunt virtually any big game animal in North America, but, I wouldn't, I have other, suitable guns, like 300 win mag which takes care of anything that walks. Yeah, I said it, "anything" that walks. When I was a kid I put a 180 gr. Hornady interlock nothing bullet through a 1" piece of cold rolled steel. That was enough proof for me.
In other words. Build what you want, but think it out. How heavy a gun? Barrel length. If you want a 22" bbl forget about Magnums they are a waste of powder. The 25 does have a great selection of Varmint bullets! So many choices, so little time.

I got my first elk with one, that's 1 point.
