SMACK- I loaded and fired over 2500 rounds of 30-06 in one year. the last two elk i killed were with a 30-06. you do not say where you are ; or what rifle. you do not say what kind of groups your rifle shoots now. i would use h-4350 or varget and a 165 grain bullet. sierra btsp, horn btsp, accubond, or partition. my load is a 168 berger , 50.5 varget, 210m and lapua brass. 030 off. when is the elk hunt??

ronin, what speeds are you seeing withthe Varget? It is my go to 165 load as well, but 50-grs and I am seeing 2850 fps. Just curious and thanks.

Smack - i do not shoot mono metal . they can be vary accurate. you can go down a weight too. either 150 or 165. try some triple shocks if you want a pass through. LIv- 2920 fps.

Thanks for all the help everyone. Din't really want to start up all the aguments. Anyone want me to post a picture of the cow my wife shot this year. 300 yd shot off the sticks with a 243 (berger vld). Elk dropped without a single step. gun)
