I am currently looking for some new optics for my hunting rig. Savage 300 win mag, no brake. I'm looking to keep it around 4x starting magnification as there is hunting in the woods/close range. Also for that reason along with others I want it sfp. I also want to keep it under 1k. I have 3 that I'm looking at and a 4th that I'm not so sure about. The list.

Nightforce SHV 4-14x56
Leupold VX-3i LRP 4.5-14x50
Meopta Meopro HTR 4.5-14x50
Athlon Midas BTR 4.5-27x50

Opinions on those? Also any other recommendations?

Have the NiteForce and Leupold you have listed. No complaints w/either.
For my next acquisition, i am strongly looking at Tract Optics.
Might want to give them a look.

Check out the Burris XTR ii. 4 - 20 x 50, 34 mm tube, either mil or MOA. I got mine at Sport Optics and they were great to deal with. Get a set of the Burris XTR Signature rings and you will be set. Shot to 1100 so far with mine. Used it a long range shooting school (Bangsteel) recently and it was solid. Great glass, repeatable turrets, the reticle is illuminated if that matters. A great package for the price.

FWIW

I am very happy with my VX3i 4.5-14. The VX5 is an even better option for long range with the 2 turn CDS-ZL2 dials. I would have bought the 3-15 if it was available when I bought my VX3i.

I'm a fan of Burris, just am looking for a sfp not ffp

May want to give our Toric and Tekoa lines a look.

We have a 3-15x50 Toric that may fit your needs very well. The Toric has a full 4" of constant eye relief which is a huge plus in hunting as you always start low and dial up as needed, that constant ER makes you not need to alter your head position at all.

Schott HT Glass, zero stop and target turret option with custom turrets available as well. Side parallax adjustment as well.

Bushnell 4200 or 4500 in 4-16X.

I was looking at the 6500 but heard some reports on people not being sure if they were 1/4moa or 1/4" click. I haven't looked through one yet to compare.

I did stop into my local Cabela's and looked through the Leupold VX-3i and the Nightforce and the Nightforce was sharper to my eye. I need to find somewhere local that has a few more of the options listed here to look through.

Thank you everyone for the recommendations.

Edit: I do have to say I really liked the Nightforce moar reticle

There are 3 scopes I really like;
Athlon Ares 4.5-27X50
Nightforce SHV 5-20X56
Burris XTR 11 5-25X50
I did look through a couple different Swaro's and Leupold VX6.....but outta my budget
