Hey there everyone. Good Wednesday too all.

I'm a newbie to this forum, but a seasoned novice in terms of rifle shooting. I'm currently working on my first long-range rifle, a Remington 700 SPS Varmint. It's all blacked out, for the time being. Looking into going "green" with my weapons soon.... and the black stock will be camo'd to match my predator get-up (I'm a little OCD, yes).

Anyway. I live in Loraine, Texas, and work in Snyder, Texas. We have hogs, deer, coons, yotes and cats all around our place out here... I've posted a few pictures. One of the Remmy and the first kill, which took place two weeks ago.

Thanks for letting me stop by and say hello.

Remington 700 SPS Varmint with Remington 4-12x40mm Scope and Bass 9 rd Stock Bullet Holder. Upgrade of glass and a bi-pod are in short order. Sling will be an afterthought though soon afterwards as well.

Howdie texan , nice rifle and fat little critter:D

Thanks for the comments. So far it's a great gun (I think I just got super lucky on the coon shot, less than 20 feet away, DRT, no exit wound, Horn VMax 40gr). Anyway. I am in a little need of help... I want to get a .243 for various purposes, but mostly for an additional varmint rig, but one that will take down a deer.... but then there's the issue of pig rifle. I don't have a pig rig yet. Should I just go up to a .300 and scrap the idea of the .243 for the time being (seeing as money is my issue right now).... or should I choose something like a .270WIN or .308?

I'm planning a budget of $600 for the rifle, and not including the scope *yet*. i'm partial to the new Marlin .308 Express, which i've seen good things about that, but the lever is more than the $600 budget right now. If you guys could lead me/steer me in the direction you think would be great, I'd appreciate it. I know I've seen some threads on this, but it seems the .300 and the .308 are the most popular with all here.
