Purchased a new Forbes 24B for this years whitetail hunts and I have to say that it may be the most impressive light rifle I have ever used. The whole rig weighs right at 7 lbs with scope, sling and fully loaded. In 270 Winchester the recoil is lighter than any other 270 I own (don't know why) and I have never owned a barrel this easy to clean and this hard to foul. I was going to handload for it but bought a couple of boxes of Nosler Custom Accubond loads to break in and get a starting point but they all touched, every group. 5 different groups of 3 after 20 break in rounds and they all touched, from a bench, in a Caldwell sled. Finally, standing without a rest or support I stayed under 3 inches for 5 shots at 100 yards. Needless to say I got 10 boxes Custom Trophy 130 grain Accubonds from Midway USA for the load and the brass because right now Nosler ammo is about the same cost as the components. I have harvested 2 whitetails so far and the exit hole is unbelievable. First shot just shy of 270 yards and the other was 32 yards flat. Identical bullet performance and no tracking required. Never used the Accubond until this year and Forbes is new to me as well. I used to shoot Nosler ballistic tips/Hornady SST's if velocity was under 3000fps and partitions over 3000fps but the Accubond just solved those issues. Simple Leupold VXIII 3.5-10 and Talley Mounts with no work at all on the gun or stock. I plan to sell my Browning collection and acquire 2 more Forbes, if I can find them. Looking for a 280 Rem 24B and a 7MM-08/243 Win 20B. If you are looking for a great gun under 2 grand this might be the best available.
