Just got my 6x45 budget build back. This is a Howa 1500 rebarreled from a .204. Knox axiom stock. ER Shaw 16 inch medium contour barrel. Gonna be a starter gun for kids. Also a little toy for new hunters and some range fun. Loading 95gr nosler ct. I hope this shoots well.

I built a 6x45 last year on a savage model 10 action with a 26 inch McGowan varmint heavy barrel, used it last july on prairie dogs out to 600 yards with impressive results. Very low recoil, easy on powder.I have been thinking about one with a shorter lighter barrel and a lighter weight stock as well.I sure do like the looks of yours.

Thank you I just hope it shoots well enough out to 300 yards or so. Hopefully I can get min. Of deer out of it that far. Didn't want to spend a bunch on this since the 338 Am is eating my money. I really hope the stock works cause its really comfortable.

the round is not new of course and the government played around with some M16's chambered in it back in the mid to late 1970's. They used a Hornaday supplied 85 grain bullet, and folks in the know claimed .308 ballistics. Doing the math, I just can't get there with a .223 necked up to 6mm. Think they must have been using 5.56 pressures and an oddball throat. Folks that were close were saying the Army was seeing a tick over 2900fps, but I just can't see it. Still can see 2800fps with a 24" barrel, and that's going to be just about equal to the 150 grain bullet with a max load in the .308. This round is another over achiever!

Gary I have no illusion of the performance I strictly wanted a cheap range gun. Since I own a tac-con and slidefire. So I have many 223 cases laying around. I can only use so many with my 300blk. So its two fold it should do just what I need it to do and like all calibers must be used in reasonable distances.

I've always thought it was a great little round

So finally got some range time. First can't find nobler 95gr anywhere so I ordered 85 gr game kings pre loaded. These are a little short cause they are meant for an ar mag. So after the first few rounds I was not impressed but then I got these. The three up top were first then I had to readjust my bipod as I lost the tightening screw. The second group is the bottom with the last two touching after I dropped the broken pod and switched to bags. Gonna clean it up and start fresh with a new pod and hopefully with load work I can get it dialed in. So far very happy light weight, no recoil, and total bill was under 500. I will post a full review of this build with the ER Shaw barrel review after I can get the bullets and load work done.
