I had this rifle built for my brother. He loves to hunt and shoot but he is not a rifle looney---I get to do all the work and all he has to do is pull the trigger. Go figure.
He had a budget of roughly 2000 bucks minus a scope and all he wanted was a long range varminter mainly for busting chucks---our annual trip is coming up.
So, I had a 6.5 creedmoor built for him by Pete Turner of Nampa, Idaho.
Specs are:
--remington 700 short action buffed out by Pete
--timney trigger set at 1.5 pounds
--Pac Nor number 8 barrel in 1-8 twist
--vais brake
--Bell and Carlson synthetic stock all bedded, color is "freedom green"
--leupold straight 12X, FX3 and leupold mounts

So, nothing real fancy but it should be a shooter.

First outing was yesterday. (In between the snowstorms......) I just picked out a couple of midrange loads from several reloading manuals and went to the range----my front yard.

Shot two factory Hornadys to get on paper and the first load was berger 140's with RL 17, 40.0 grains. It shot .34. Cool, it has some potential.

Second load was 140 sst's, RL 17, 41 grains. It shot .283. It seems to like 140's with RL 17.

Third load was sierra 142 match. RL 17, 40.5 grains. It shot .498. Still not too bad.

I messed with several other loads with RL 17 and some 120's but it seems to like the 140's at least at the start.

It is an absolute pleasure to shoot-----now, if I could just get that 340 weatherby to do the same...........................

Happy Memorial Day everyone,

Randy

Nice, very nice especially for a first time out.

Few rigs I've ever shot really started showing their full potential until after at least a hundred rounds so I predict some really fun times ahead.

By the way, that country around Nampa is amongst my favorite in the west.

Yes indeed, Idaho is a wonderful place.

--No hunter orange
--don't have to choose your weapon
--can have full automatics
--can have silencers
--can have automatic knives
--can still drive and talk on the phone at the same time
--the entire state is open range--you hit a cow and its your fault
--The Boise State Broncos are here

Just a couple of things that make it great!
