I received my new dies a couple of days ago and thought I would try them out. I am still playing around with weights, etc., but here is a 222 grain SXR hybrid with an estimated b.c. around .740. If they shoot, they should be a potent long range killer! I just realized the pics are reversed for
R and L but I guess it is pretty obvious anyway! DSCF0872.jpg

Re: New 222gr SXR Hybrid

I thought the Thread was about .222 Rem so I just about passed it by.
Glad you finally received your dies...

Steel or Al tips?

How long before the field testing for accuracy? J4 or Sierra jacket?

Those are steel with a Sierra jacket. Aluminum would be 10 grains less. I can also make a 232 gr. (approx) in a J4 or Corbin. Not sure when I will get a chance to test......Rich

I always thought a bullet with a steel tip that wasn't an armored piercing round would be very neat. Are these intended for hunting or just shooting?

They are IMO, the ultimate long range hunting bullet. I'll qualify that by saying "if they shoot as accurately as the original VLD's that I made"! I'm hoping the hybrid transition will make bullet seating less sensitive. The only reason the tip is steel is it is cheaper to produce and tough enough to machine well. They have a very high b.c. and the tip initiates expansion of the thin nosed jacket. In a magnum chambering, they will expand on game clear out to near a mile ..........Rich

Wow that's a very effective bullet indeed! Is expansion like Bergers? Or controlled expansion like other tipped bullets?
