I just finished load development for a tikka t3x.
H4831 SC @ 59.2 grains
fed 210M
3x fired hornady brass
berger 156
CBTO 2.983 (-.027).

it can shoot better than the nut holding the trigger most days. But I can usually get .5 MOA at 100 to 300 yards. Haven't stepped it out further yet.
6.5 PRC?
Seems like a ton of H4831SC. The load data that berger sent to me was.... 50gr Min-56gr max with the 156 EOL.
Looks like @orkan 's load development shows the same...56gr max.

Was 59.2gr a typo?

Since this thread is still active, I thought some visual aids would be nice for some of you.

Here's a 10x fired ADG brass, with 60gr of H1000 in it. The brass was NOT resized, so it's as big inside as it gets. The powder is up in the neck.

Now here is what it looks like if you seat a 156EOL to 2.950" for use in a short action. You can see the bearing surface of that bullet is way beneath the neck shoulder junction and nearly to the BODY shoulder junction... and the boat tail goes down in the body even further.

This is not some mild compression folks. This is massively compressed, to the point that ogive damage will happen to the bullet just to get it in there even with the most manicured seating stem... and the bullet will creep out over time probably 20 thousandths or more. As I said above, this case has as much internal volume as possible, since it came straight out of the chamber and not through a sizing die... so in actual use, this load would be even worse than is depicted here.

And that's why when I built my 6.5 PRC 4 years ago I used an XM length action (3.2in OAL) and had the leade cut long to keep the tail of the long 6.5mm bullets out of the powder column. I've been shooting the 156 at 3.1 OAL (15 thou off) since it came out. 2.95 OAL is a handicap true short action builds suffer somewhat from when it comes to the 156. Even with my setup 60gr of H1000 under a 156 EOL at 3.1in would be way way over pressure. I think I pressured out at 58.6gr if memory serves. But I run it hot at 58.2gr. That recipe has whacked 22 big game animals mostly with 1 shot.

Correction to the load info. Powder is N565 NOT H4831SC

I just built an origin SA. 26" Shilen 8 twist saami throat 57gr h1000. 140 eldm at 2.930oal (2.300ogive) Lapua brass. Fed 210's. 3070fps. Went up to 58.5 with 143eldx's and was 3144 and very warm. Lapua brass less capacity? Or fast barrel? Or both? Anyway. 56.5 h1000 143eldx was the best load with those and it was just over .5" at 100 at 3029 fps. 140eldm shot 2 groups .259" and .336" then straight to 300 it shot 1.61" cold bore was out a little next 4 were .79" group.

I run the 124 Hammers with RE23 now. I don't expect to have any problems with ambient temperature changes. I liked my RE26 load, which was faster, but I've been shooting in 90*+ temperatures and I don't want to deal with pressure spikes.

Same powder I use with 124 Hammer. Still use RL26 with 156 Berger tho. Oct./Nov. here not hot. I still haven't tried Retumbo , N565/560 yet. A few promising loads with H1000. Not the velocity of RL26 and accuracy was no better.

I use RL26 almost exclusively and was shooting Wednesday with my new can at 95F. Same load I use all year for several years. No issue with brass etc. I did not labradar the shots but my data was showing to be still good for the 800 yards I was shooting. I was also shooting my 6mm creed pistol using RL26. Same deal, 500 and 800 I was good to go and no issue pressure signs. With RL26 I've learned that if you run a ragged edge load that is destroying brass in a few reloads you'll have issues with high temps. Just food for thought and just my experience. I have used a absolute pile of rl26 and that seems to be what works best for me.

I liked RE26 because it provided excellent accuracy in several cartridges. The higher velocities were a bonus. At the time, I had no problem finding an 8lb jug. Most of my loads were worked up in the spring when temperatures were in the 60s. While the stories of spiking pressures with RE26 became commonplace, I continued to shoot in the 70s so never experienced any issues myself.

While I was on the continual hunt for H1000, I was able to find an 8lb jug of RE23. As my supply of RE26 was diminishing, I started to work with the RE23. I was pleasantly surprised to find that accurate loads were easy to find and that attainable velocities were still good, even though they were not as high as the RE26 loads.

I was running the 124H bullets at 3,300 ft/sec with RE26 from my 23.5" Proof barrel. The RE23 loads shoot just under 3,200 ft/sec. That seemed like a good trade for a temperature stable powder that I had on the shelf. Both loads shoot sub .5 moa at 417yds.

The interesting thing about RE26 is that some reloaders seem to experience temperature related spikes while others have not. Some have apparently seen spikes when temps are in the high 80s while others shoot in the 90s without issues. I'm content with avoiding the issue all together and since RE26 is only available at the end of a rainbow, it's just not in my reloading equation anymore.
