Are you set on getting a .45?
What is the intended usage?
If it's for personal protection, there are several smaller autos that are excellant carry guns, fit smaller hands, and have less recoil for an inexperienced shooter.
For that matter, if she's just getting started in handgun shooting, find a .22 and a couple of bricks of ammo and turn her loose. Some of the gun shops I've talked to lately have stashes of .22 shells that they only sell to someone who buys a gun.
For anyone just starting out, it is way better to start small and work up and sometimes it's much more fun to just stay small!
I still shoot my .22's every chance I get...
