I wasn't sure to put this under Gunsmithing or Photos, but here we go.

I decided to build on a model 70 action since I had it and I shot the barrel out.

I am using the factory stock, but replacing the barrel with a X Caliber in 6mm.

From the factory, I am really disappointed with the bedding job, the material is soft and squishy around the rear action screw... Completely in ideal.

I installed one pillar on the front and am machining one to fit the rear that is square and tapered. I have opened up the barrel channel to fit my medium Palma fluted barrel (23" long) and the barrel will end up being 20 1/2" after chambering.

This is all that was under the action on the rear screw. A half moon of soft putty.

I am thinking about leaving this one stainless and cerakoting the action and a floor plate.

Unfortunately, I will have to do every pin and screw on the action, and re-assemble it without marring the finish.

Going to start barrel threading this week. Then Cerakoting.
