My son killed his first mule deer last night. He is 10 yrs old. The shot was 154 yds prone on a rear bag, deer slightly quartered to us, he put it just forward of the crease and this guy went about 15 yds before giving up. I have 3 boys. I built this 6x47 lapua on a trued up 700 for them to learn to shoot with. So far my oldest and my middle son have both killed their first deer with it. 105 hybrids at 3030 FPS. For us the 105s have performed on deer just like the 215s do on elk in my 300 win.

I was going to shoot that very same buck the day before, but I let him walk because I knew how wonderful it was going to be for you and your son to watch him fall. Naw, but I wish I could have been there. Nothing better than a good hunt with your kids. Not even their first fish.
