So I finally found a M700 in .308 about 1981 vintage for $500. You only get to see the good side as that's all the pictures I got from the seller. On the bad side the stock is missing about 2" of the toe, looks like either the sling stud or recoil pad screw was the culprit.

So I ran this off to my GS to get the barrel cut down to 18" and threaded for my ASR muzzle break to mout my Omega 300 suppressor. While it was at the GS I started looking for a stock. I finally settled on a Greyboe Trekker, and was pleasantly surprised when it came in within ½ ounce of advertised 23 ounce weight and under $600 after some discounts.

I also found a deal on a couple of triggers for $180 + tax. I haven't tried TT before but hear good things, so why not?

Then I had to find an optic, and I found this little gem for just under $700. NF 3-10X42 SHV MOAR reticle. My first NF optic, probably won't be the last.

All my parts except scope are still at my GS. I just don't have time to bed the rifle myself with work and pre elk season scouting trips. I hope to start putting this rifle through the paces next week. I just need to figure out how I'm mounting the NF SHV.

Ghat sounds awesome. I hope that barrel won't give you any problems. Please post a picture when you bet it all together.

I had one of those SHV scope (3-10x42) for my hunting rifle and it worked great. Then I found a used NF 2.5-10x42 for a good price and put that on instead.

If it doesn't shoot, I'll replace the barrel and blueprint the action. I didn't see any reason to think I'd have any issues, but you never know what's going to happen when you start cutting on things. I'll gladly post pictures as it comes together.

Well the rifle is all put together, and I got a chance to fire a few rounds through it at 150 yards. I used a Warn Mountain Tech 20 MOA base and 30mm low rings to mount the NF SHV. I don't think I really needed a 20 MOA base, but it was the only Pic rail available at Sportsman's Warehouse on the way to scout my elk hunt.

Groups weren't great using cheap PPU 150 grain ammunition I picked up, but I think there is some potential here for a great shooting rifle. I didn't shoot much as it was nearly 100⁰ outside shooting on BLM ground in UT while out looking for areas to hunt elk this fall. I just basically wanted to get I on paper so I could work with it when I get home.

Top group was the first, and bottom was the last group I shot once on paper.
