My budget .270 AI ...

This is my first AI and there are more experienced and qualified members than can share more insight but my short answer is yes and yes! :)

Look at #7 & 8 posts in http://www.longrangehunting.com/for...r-ackley-improved-load-data-64112/index2.html

Hopefully, they'll chime in.

Ed

Don't know about more qualified, but I have tried a few loads with the AI. I have found since my re-chamber that my rifle is shooting the lights out with 130 gr bullets. I went to the Cutting Edge Bullet because I followed advice on another thread for 338's and found these offerings. BC 540 and skipping down the road with nearly 3400 fps. H4831 and I have a 25" barrel.

My first attempt with the 165's I attempted with RL19 and at 54 grains it was only running 2710. I have H4831 loaded with those bullets now and when I can I'll send 'em.

OK

I have settled on a load for this years trip to Colorado. This load took the honors as I make each hunting rifle win its spot each year. The load is 63.5gr H4831 Fed match reg primer. 130 gr Cutting Edge Bullet. The CE bullet has a bc of 540. Velocity is a little over 3300fps and two shot groups are in one hole. Barrel length 25".

The only way to beat that is with a 165 Matrix Bullet and I dont have enough time left to attempt it. Infact the way the CE's are shooting I might be selling a nearly full box of Matrix's.

64 grs showed pressure signs on everything but new brass, but 63.5 seemed to be the right choice for this gun. It is a 1:10 twist and it has never shot as well as it has with these 130gr CEs.

Wish me luck this season. gun)

Just got it back Friday from my smith for a muzzle brake (JP Enterprise Beenie Cooley) install ...

Can't wait to shoot it with some new loads. :):Dgun)

It was windy and a bit chilly but I was able to squeeze in some range time (more fire-forming and trying out the new muzzle brake).

I wasn't looking for any accuracy load at this time but here's what I got (3 shots at 100 yards) ...

(1) 60gr 7828SSC 150gr NBT, WLR , Win brass - X=3130 FPS; SD=24

(2) 60gr H1000 150gr NBT, WLR, Win brass - X=3044 FPS; SD=11

(3) 60gr H4831SC 150gr NBT, WLR, Win brass - X=3194 FPS; SD=4

#3 has the best X, SD, and group. No signs of pressure yet.

Sorry for the quality of the video (Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS4), I should have used my rest but I couldn't cradle it well and I figure it'll show the muzzle rise/recoil better if I use a shooting bag. Unfortunately, I forgot my rear bags :( ... might have to re-do the video next time. Anyways, here's my initial attempt ... sorry, not good in editing. I start getting steady about the :20 or so mark ...

NOTE: I was using 175gr Matrix with 57.5gr H4831SC at 2919 FPS.

Overall, I'm very pleased thus far! :):D:rolleyes:gun)

Awesome! Gotta love those results. After readings this thread, I'm wanting to get my 270 Gibbs up and running! Thinking 150 Bergers would be entertaining! Need a new scope for it and to refinish the stock.

John,

Sorry mate for not sharing ... I actually thought I did but thanks for straightening me out. :D

Been busy lately to find some range time but here's what I got from my last range time in 4/23/2013. I ran out of H4831SC so I put that quest on hold. H4350 is the only powder I can get my hands on and I've never used it before. Anyways, I loaded up some to fireform using Win brass, 150gr NBT, and WLR primer ...

54.0 xMv=3008; SD=18
54.5 xMv=3050; SD=22
55.0 xMv=3090; SD=16
55.5 xMv=3131; SD=14

All are under 1 MOA but below is the best 5-shot group at 100 yards.

Let alone all 5 in such a tight group, weldone you've done such a great job and you should be proud of this One,

WTG, John
