My 6.5 x 284

1000 Yards Group 2
Conditions: 730-800AM@68 Degrees
MOA: 23.25
Group: 6+"

My load was:
Bullets: Berger 140 Grain Hybrid Match (.618 BC)
Brass: Lapua 6.5 x 284
Powder: 49 Grains - H4350
Primers: Fed210M

***, not certain what happened. Left the 23.25 moa in there for the federals. Wicked high! Left dirty trying to see if things would tighten up!

I experienced a higher MV with the Fed210 over the CCI BR's.....which may be the reason for hitting higher.

I was doing some calculations on my last range session. According to my last impacts @ 600 and 1000, I'm somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000-3025 FPS. I'll be back out the first week or so of September to validate my trajectory.

I have a few VLDs I'm going to try out also and see how they do at 600 or 1000 yards. They were loaded to the same length as my hybrids.

Other than that, I'm going back to my original load with the Federal 210m. The Federals seem to be more consistent in my rifle than the CCI BR2s.

Hybrids on top/VLD Hunting below

Not really certain what to think! I believe the VLD Hunting shot better than the Hybrids! However, the hunting were 1.5 MOA low at 1000 yards! I worked my drops at 600 & 1000 for the hybrids and I calculated my speed to be 2929. I was using 2925 for my range session today! Im thinking of switching. I was saying I was going to use the hybrid on my Wyoming deer, however, I think the VLD hunting is the way to go!!

This evening I was out shooting at extended ranges for the first time. We started at 1500 and needless to say things didn't go to well for me, 0-12. 30x30" piece of steel. I started with 52 MOA and worked my way down to 47 MOA. It was hard to see our hits as the weeds were high. My last couple shots were good with elevation, however, couldn't get my wind right. Only dialed 1.5 MOA left to start, then 4 MOA left, then back to 1.5 MOA Left. Too much moving around, should have got a better range on the target, and my buddies were itching to go to a mile. Conditions were perfect as we had no wind. My buddy was shooting his 6.5 SAUM and was smoking the plate at 1500 yards, so I went off his range call. Some days your on and others you are not.

Out to 1725 (Ranged with Leica) just short of a mile, I got to fire 3 rounds, 0-3. Dialed 65 MOA and 2 MOA left. Elevation was about maxed out. Again, no wind what so ever. I had a blast, however, I was bummed out I didn't get a hit. I understand I was pushing the 6.5-284 past its limits.

I was shooting the 140 hybrids/2925 . So was my buddy out of his SAUM (3125). I forget what he was dialing in Mils.

Who knows...... Maybe next time.

Always hard to be certain what's going on at 1500 yards but it is possible that at 2925FPS you has crossed into the instability region with that bullet/load..... at under 1300FPS, accuracy could be problematic. At 1500 yards your buddies 6.5 SAUM with an additional 200FPS is still supersonic and well over 1300FPS. My 6.5-284 at 2975 seems to hang in there well up to about 1400 yards or so. For playing at 1500-1 mile I pull out the 300WM

After looking at my chart again, that appears to be what happened! At 1500, it looks like I'm at 1212fps. At 1400, I'm at 1303fps. I will have to try to get some more time under 1400. Thanks GF
