    No it can, I run a barnes 175 lrx at 2900, using 52 grains of ww760, and 210m primers. Groups .128. This is a factory savage #10, with a 26" barrel.

    My team mates nephew from 3rd group crushed that competition beating last years team by an hour. I wish I could have gone they used a 6.5 gas gun with a Vortex razor HD, after winning Vortex told both of them to keep the optics. Good win for 3rd group

    I volunteer at the local public shooting range in northern Utah. For big game hunting here it seems that the venerable 30-06 and 308 are at the top with the 270 very near the top with the 223 as most popular but not for hunting. Many more cartridges today than 20 or 40 years ago but it. Not scientific, limited to Northern Utah for data. The fascinating part is the occasional 32 Winchester Special or other unusual case to make you realize many cartridges in use. Here is a link to Chuck Hawks view of cartridge popularity... interesting reading. https://chuckhawks.com/best_selling_rifle_cartridges.htm

    Yes, no Mark's on cases, primers look good. Every Chamder is different, and savages have alot of factory throat. There barrels run fast, and accurate. I go by what the case tells me, not a commercial barrel that they use for sami spec. Most people dont use that slow of power in a 308.works for me!

    See post #83. Five of the 10 are .308. Obviously, the "Most Common Caliber" as the poster asked.

    Caliber? In center fire, 30. Hands down. Chambering? Dunno. There are millions of .30 WCF (30-30) rifles out there beginning with the 94 Winchester. And probably millions of bolt guns in .30-06 including all the military guns (‘03, ‘03-A3 & 1917) and about every full sized bolt gun model every e everywhere has ever made. There were only commercial .308’s to speak of, and plenty of them, but never the likes of the .30-06. But rest assured, .30 caliber, whether from a black gun in 7.62x47 or one of the belted firebreathers or anything in between, is so dominantly the most popular caliber as to make senseless fooling with anything else. Mark me for a senseless fool because I load and shoot in .22, 6mm, .30, .35 & .45, but the serious stuff I do, I do with a .30.e.

    What's the difference between the "40 S&W" at number 6 and the "40 Cal" at number
    12?

    I started hunting in S.E. Pennsylvania in the late 60’s. If you didn’t have a 760 carbine in 30.06 or 308 you looked out of place. Great times.

    Yep, all these guys are just waisting time “debating” what is publicized known data. Why not let someone else do the work. Took me all of 30 seconds to figure it out. :D:D:D

    This is not very scientific but I found that federal has a list of their most popular ammunition sold in order of number of rounds.

    I.= 223
    2= 308
    3= 30/06
    4= 30/30
    5= 270 win
    6= 243 win
    7= 300 win mag
    8= 7 mm rem mag
    9= 7.62 x 39
    10 = 300 wsm

    The only one that surprises me is number 9, the 7.62x39 and I guess it shouldn'y.
