More bedding porn. . .

I use a commercial mold release agent in a spray can. As far as getting the stuff off I just tap on it with a brass hammer and then it chips right off. The rest is hot soapy water and a tooth brush.

Great pics, great work. I'm assuming when tooling that the rpms are high but the movement is very slow. I find that, to work best when I want to avoid splintering the wood upon exiting, now that's with a router and I know yours isn't but wondering if the pricipals the same?

I don't exceed 4k rpm most cases. Going too slow on the feed with a high spindle speed just means burned up tooling and cooked wood. As far as feed rates I run at a top of about 50ipm only because the mill I have will turn into a studdering fool if I try to run surfaces any faster. The mill I had at Nesika had much more modern software and higher spindle RPM capacity. I'd shred through stocks at over 300ipm! That was bad ***! Complete an entire inlet in about 4 and half minutes! Now it takes about 15-20. Still beats using lamp black and a scraper though!

My tool packages and tool paths are a bit different than what's commonly encountered when working with wood. Very, very rarely do I have an inlet "grenade" on me and require a bunch of repair work.

Cooked wood, learned that lesson a few times now I go slow just before exiting. Your tools and methods are I'm sure much more sophisticated than my home woodshop. Thanks for responding, it's interesting and your works amazing.

Thanks!

Not to sound like a cheese _ick but its that kind of encouragement that keeps me plugging along my own little path.

Had a killer barrel job tonight. Best as I can tell the chamber runout is .00007"

CHRIST. I need a "better" indicator. I'm sure its more than that but its what the little needle says so I'm gonna go with it!

Gnite all.

.00007 if my math is right that's 7/100,000 of 1 inch heck my micrometer only goes to 1/10000 of 1 inch and at .00001 I can't even see light between the space. Just thinking about .00007 makes my eyes sore.

Like I said guys, I'm not claiming its really that good. My Brown/Sharp indicator reads in 1/2 tenths increments. It's one I had to buy back when I worked in a Job shop and ran the Wire EDM.

I'm getting a "red one" past .00005" so I'm calling it .00007"

What it really means is I have no way of telling just how small it is. I'd need something with much higher resolution I bet.

Either way, it's heading in the right direction so I'm pleased.

Thanks.

Here's the latest:

Stolle Swindelhurst 22 rimfire bench gun. Just popped her out 10 minutes ago.

This one came out perfect. Not one little bubble or blem anywhere. I like those!

Those are old chamber reamers that I've been peddling off on a different forum/site.

I've got a handful left. They run $25.00 for solid pilot and $30.00 for floaters. I've also got a pile of old Anschutz triggers and a bunch of other stuff that I'm going to be getting rid of. Scope rings, bases, H/S detach floor metals, etc. Lots of stuff I won't ever use.

It's a mix bag of crap that I've picked up over the years that I don't/won't use anymore. All my tooling now is exclusive to PTG to include every reamer pilot available from 17 to 338 caliber in .0002" increments.

Chad,

This is what shows up where your sexy stock pictures used to be:

...OK, I can't get it to paste into this reply.

Anyway, I says something to the effect that Photobucket moved or deleted the file (photo).

Can you stick them back up? They are very motivating!

Wally

sorry about the pics guys. I have been going through my photo bucket stuff and trying to get it organized. Everything is too cluttered and I can't find stuff.

I'll get it sorted and get photos back up.

thanks.

NesikaChad I have been reading your bedding posts and used a lot of your tips just the other day on my Ironwood stock I just got back from Joel Russo.
I even made a stock holding jig like yours but just not as pretty. It made working on it a lot more easier.
I have beeded stocks before using acraglas but that was over 10 yrs. ago.
This was the first time using Devcon and I am very happy with the results.
So Thanks and keep your expertise faucet flowing. It helps us amateurs do professional looking work.
Here is my thread.
