I'm trying to buy some bases for my post '64 Model 70 Express and the descriptions I'm finding aren't very specific on which Model 70 models they fit. I remember going through this th last time I bought scope bases for this rifle but don't remember the result.

My question is, do Model 70 Long Action bases fit a Model 70 Express length action, or are the Model 70 Express length actions different?

Thanks in advance

I believe different. You should be able to visit Weaver or another scope base manufacturers web site and identify the differing bases for the differing model 70s.

The M70 Express length action takes a different base than the standard M70 long action. The reason is the ejection port is milled larger on the express actions which shortens the rear bridge. The express action takes a rear base with the screw hole spacing of .330", the normal long action uses a .860" hole spacing.

To add even more confusion in there the pre-64 actions take an even different set of bases.

The manufacturers terminology differs also so that makes it even more confusing. What you need to see are the terms Post-64 express .330 rear screw hole spacing or something to that effect, then you'll have the right bases.
