Would like to give it a upgrade looking for suggestions on caliber and stocks

Stockade and Boyds have very good value for the price. They also have several styles of stocks to choose from. Stockade offers synthetics with aluminum reinforcement much like a HS Precision. Boyd specializes in laminate wood stocks.

Caliber is a tough one. Without knowing you want it for, it's tough to make a recommendation. Kind of like asking which truck to buy.

Will you be hunting, punching paper, bench work, prone, spot and stalk? What will you be hunting?

The Savage is a good starting point. It can be anything between 204Ruger and 338 Edge with a simple bolt head and barrel swap.

Here are my examples for upgrade suggestions: Boyds forest camo laminate on one and Tacticool on the other. The blued barrel is from EABCO and chambered in 6.5/284 Norma, the fluted barrel is from PacNor, chambered in 280 Ackley Improved. Brakes are both JP Tacticals. The blue/laminate was assembled by professionals, the greenish one is entirely home-built. Both started as stock 111s, one with a hinged floorplate magazine, the other a detachable box, both centerfeeds. One had an accutrigger, but both have the SAV2 from RifleBasix, set at 1lb 12oz. Both wear picatinny rails, burris zee rings and Vortext Viper HSLR FFP scopes with levels. Both shoot very well.
