They have been around for a long time, I started hunting the Quinlan Ranch in 1990. I remember them always being in Chama when I was there. I would see their trucks with their logo in the area Restaurant. About three years ago I stayed in the same Motel as one of their hunters, and if you PM me, I will give you his review of the operation.
I know he has a lot of private area that he hunts in and around Chama, and South of there near where his office is near the Brazos. Did he give you an idea of the area or the Ranch that he wants you to hunt?

Talked to Ray Milligan of milligan outfitters just before christmas
told him I would like to find a 300+ bull his reply was if I would not shoot a 260 bull
he did not want me in his camp
I have been elk hunting since the late 70's so its not my first rodeo
so I will pass on this outfitter
he wants quantity not quality of bulls to keep his high success ratio
    so I will look elsewhere

Tell him jeff haugland sent you.
I sent one of my customers again last year and killed a nice bull with muzzleloader. Has land owner vouchers if needed.

How could you base your guide service on killing a 260" bull....in that part of the world and the genetics..that would be a 3 year old bull....probably hasn't busted a nut yet......minimum age for a decent bull for most any genetic would be 5....and in his part of the country that would be a 300" bull minimum..probably closer to 350".....

That's unreal, as a 260" bull is what most would consider immature, especially for NM where he hunts. If he wants anyone he books to shoot one like that it's obvious he goes by kill ratio and not maturity of the animal like most are looking for on an expensive guided hunt!

Ask Mr. Milligan if he still requires you to shoot the first legal Bull you see. He told a hunter "There's your Bull" and he pointed to a raghorn. The hunter said he wanted to wait for something bigger. He then told the hunter "That's your Bull, he's legal-if you pass on him, your hunt is over".

These guy's worked their butts off for me on a no frills Pronghorn hunt a few years back. Several friends have hunted elk with them and had good success.

Good luck and shoot straight y'all

I have hunted with compass west outfitters in units 34 and 36 and I have nothing but good things to say. They truly have a expectation of 300” but I have been fortunate to get two bulls over 325”. The guides are great guys and the camps are ok. Brandon and Jeff are first class and are excellent hunters. I would recommend them to any and everyone. One of their hunters was able to harvest a 437” or there abouts. Size aside they make the hunt truly a fun experience. Highly recommend!

437 inch Bull? That's a decent one. I thought the Record Elk was around 440 inch killed in Montana. Is that the one mentioned here? I think the John Plute Bull was about 442 inches taken in 1899 in Colorado. Looks like Compass West has some really great hunting area.
