Magneto Speed V3 cable

My 6 foot MagnetoSpeed V3 cable took a dump today. The retractable one that was also included when I bought it died in the first year.

My question is can you use any 3.5mm male to male headphone cable or is it a specific application. A replacement from Magneto Speed is $5 which leads me to believe it's not but I'm sure they'll hit me for shipping when I can get one from Amazon shipped for that.

I just ordered my V3 last night. But the review I watched from 8541tactical said you can use any 3.5mm cable.
