Sniper2, I have personally used two Adams & Bennett barrels from Midway and can say they shoot very well. The interior finish is a little rough but handlapping and some shooting smooths things out very well. Both have shot groups that would be considered match quality. These are the lest expensive barrels on the market right now.

Another inexpensive set of barrels but only in 30cal is offered through "guns and stuff" (gunsnstuff.net).

ER Shaw and Montana Rifleman make many inexpensive barrels. MR barrels are also supposed to be hand lapped during finishing so interior quality could be good. From the people that I have talked to that have used the MR barrels, they seem to shoot too. One of the few "inexpensive" makers that offer barrels over 30".

It boils down to the accuracy level you want. The barrels above will all shoot sub MOA but if competing in BR, these barrels will not cut it. For a LR hunting rig out to 1000yds, they could work just fine. Beyond that, I want BR type accuracy.

You can also look at Numrich arms for more barrel blanks.

Thank you Jerry!! I am not looking for sub-min accuracy,a friend and I have recently purchased a lathe and we were looking for something inexpensive to practice with.Later we will upgrade to some that will shoot.

PRACTICE...check with any local gunsmith--im sure they have some take-offs thay would part with for 50$ or less

i know RW Hart always has take-offs for sale.

i definately wouldnt buy a new blank for machining practice!!--unless you plan on then using it if it is any good.

Thanks JB we will consider this.Although we're not machinists we do have access to a couple and the barrels we thread will be usable, we just wanted to get a good buy on them. The take off barrels are a good idea and we will try that as well.

Try ER Shaw. (Ershawbarrels.com) I think their $221 for a blank. I've had great success with them and their nice to deal with. Any problems with the barrel send it back and they'll replace it.

I have fixed a few dozen of their barrels that they sent out, botched chamber jobs, band treads, etc. The bad part is the customer sent their barrels back to them and they said they are fine. I wouldn't take a shaw barrel for free.
