Have a Savage 110 in 30-06 and was looking for a bullet and load to practice
out to 600 yards without burning out the barrel in my hunting rifle.

Looking at the 155 grain Amax with a bc of .435.
Is it possible to get 3000 fps with IMR 4064 or IMR 4350 ? in a 22" barrel ?

Any other bullet powder combos that would be flat shooting to practice with ?

Maybe the Nosler 150 ballistic tip ?

Thanks

I would lean towards the A-MAX bullets. They are match bullets and will be much more consistent than Ballistic Tips at 600yds. They also are $15 a 100 cheaper than the Noslers and have a Litz true BC of .424 compared to the Nosler, which has a .406 BC. IMR 4064 is a tad fast for the 155s even in a 22" barrel and would yield a MV around 2900. IMR 4320 will be your best bet and should get you around 2950fps, IMR 4350 is also another great option as well. You could also look at the new 155gr TMKs, but they are about $10 more a box than the Hornady's and have a true BC of .464 which won't make much of a difference out to 600yds, only about .5 MOA flatter. When practicing it's always nice to save money with consistent and quality bullets like the A-MAXs.

Appreciate the help,
Thanks

I run the 178 Amax behind 56.5 grains of IMR 4350. 2750fps 24" barrel. I wouldn't see why you couldnt get close to that in a 22".
I'm soon going to be working up a load with the 200 ELD as soon as I can get a reliable supply....

If you want best accuracy with that rifle's 1:10 twist barrel, shoot 180 to 200 grain bullets; 4064 with the 180's or 4350 with 200's. I think it's twist is way too fast to get repeatable tiny groups at 600 yards with 150's unless greatly reduced loads are used.

Should highest velocity be most important, then 4064 is a good choice. 4895's slightly faster burn rate can be used but bullets won't leave as fast with max and equal peak pressures.

For practice out to 700 in my 30-06 i use hornady 168 HPBT. RP brass, 59 grains H4831SC, Rem 9 1/2 primer. velocity is only 2625, however, this gun shoots in the .2's with it so its staying right there. I got lucky and found a big lot of the 168's for a great price that i couldnt pass up. Couldnt be happier with this load. Furthest shot this year with this load has been 820.

Under 2/10ths MOA at 700 yards all the time?

That's what shoots in the .2's means to me.

Or is that the smallest group you've shot at 100 yards? If so what's the largest group at 100 it's shot?

I really like the 178gr Amax's. I've done a lot of research and almost everyone has found an accuracy node using IMR4350 anywhere from 55gr's to 57gr's. Which has also been true for me. This may be on the upper end of the charge weight in some reloading manuals.

I think the marketed BC is around .49X something for those bullets.

And I agree that 4064 would also be a fine choice. (IMO, 4064 meters horribly though).

With lightweight rifles, the 150gr bullets will recoil noticeably less also.

Found an old load of mine from years ago that worked well, so will try
52 gr. IMR 4064 with 155 A-Max.

Went shooting today
52.0 grains 4064 with 155 amax, terrible group - 3" @ 100 yards
52.5 grains 4064 just as bad, thought the rings or base was loose.

53 grains 4064 group shrunk down to 1" for 3 shots.

53.5 grains 4064 group opened up and primers began to get
a little flat, bolt was not sticky.

Looks like 53 grains IMR 4064 with the 155 amax worked the best for this savage 110.

May try different seating depths. Right now .030 from the lands may
seat out to .010 from the lands.

Also going to free float the barrel on the factory Savage synthetic sporter stock. Expected to get better than 1" at 100 yards
