So of course I am thinking about my next rifle build before my last rifle build is even finished...I have a 6.5cr and I get 2880 with 140 VLDs with 43.2gr of H4350...this is my sons rifle and I will be getting my own version of a soft shooter soon.

I have a 30-06, 280ai, 30N, and want something softer shooting for deer, though the '06 and AI are great deer rifles. I'm wondering what velocities folks are getting with the 6.5-284 and 140's...leaning towards getting a Creedmoor or a -284 and wanting to know real world velocities of the -284 To compare and contrast performance.

My experience has been 2950-3000 with a 26" barrel and 140s.

Def do a norma and a long action though. The short action variant is a no go for me.

I have a Magneto but never shot it on my 6.5x284. I load 57gr of H1000 and use a Fed 215 primer. I shoot Berger 140 Hunting VLDs. Getting sub MOA groups at 200yds. LA Remington receiver. Krieger 26 in barrel. 1-8 twist. Lapua brass

Thanks...seems 2950 to 3000 is a realistic expectation. I don't think I'm going to use the 156 EOL...not far away from the 280AI and the 168's and I like how the 140's have performed on game and how they shoot in the. 6.5cr.

I get 2980 with my H4350 load (hot), and an 8 twist 28" tube.
FWIW I tried some 155's in an 8.5 twist and they keyholed at 600.
The Sierra 150's make it to1,000 with an 8 twist, but that was with re26, and got too much vertical.
