Long Term Rifle Storage ?

What is the best way to store a rifle with a long heavy barrel, as not to mess up the bedding, action etc? Is it stored stock down, which would possibly distort the recoil pad in time, or do you stand it muzzle down?

Probably horizontal. This would not only spread the load (if there really was any) but it would prevent bore protecting fluids from eventually running into the action or stock.
Mine are all verticle - stock down.
