Load for 22-250 ?

Thanks for info Gary it does get -13 to -31 Fahrenheit up here in Manitoba . I have already primed my brass with normal primers . Think ill get 50 gr v-max and try the benchmark that I have on hand then go from there
Thanx guys for all the info appreciate it

I know your gonna think I'm nuts (others do anyway), but try shooting the rifle as a sing shot. Keep your ammo inside your coat. might help you out a little bit. I do the samething with cameras.

Shooting a sako not sure on twist
Just tried full load h414 not good
And full load benchmark. Not good
Both around 1 1/2

I know you'd like to use both these powders, but Benchmark is a little too fast and H414 is definately too slow. the other guys have mentioned other good powders and we have tried them out of my fathers' .22-250. It prefers H4895 and this powder will actually achieve 3800 FPS with 36.5g. Varget is also a good powder and both are temp stable.

Dad is able to shoot 1 hole groups with the H4895 loads

I only mention this because these two powders haven't been mentioned as of yet and have worked well for us. We use it to hunt coyotes in the winter.

H414 is what I use in my .243, and have used Bench mark in .223s

I have a contrary Rem 700 VLS with 14 twist. Have tried a mess of 40-55 gr. bullets and numerous powders. I finally settled on 40 grains AA2700 with the 53 gr. Sierra match bullet. Gettin groups around .5 at 100 yds. in the summer.

I know this is a little off topic, but it's still in the 22-250 frame of mind. Down the road I'd kinda like to try out a fast twist 22-250, and may even go so far as to do an Ackley imroved chamber as well. My 6/250AI shooting 100 grain bullets seems to like H1000, Retumbo, and 4831SC. Now here's the spill. I'm kinda thinking about trying these powders with 80 grain bullets in a fast twist 22-250. The Hogdons manual shows RL15 at 3300fps with a 70 grain bullet, but I want to do 80 grain bullets, and think I can get 3200fps. Plus the loads they show are for unimproved cases.

maybe I think too much!

Hornady #9 has data to 80 gr. with a fast twist 22-250. They show it capable of 3150 fps with the 80gr a-max.

As far as loading for my striker in 22-250 I use either 760(h414 clone) or h4895. Either is capable of 5 shot 1 inch groups out of a pistol with a 4x leopold on top. Bullets are either 50 grain sp (760) or 55 gr fmj start load of 4895.

I could get 760 to shoot very well in my 22-250. I orginally bought it to try in a 6mm with an 80 grain bullet, and that was even worse! The H414 shot better than anything in that caliber. Yet they are close, so figure that one out! The best powder for group size that I found was 3031, but even then 2015 wouldn't shoot as well (22-250) This spring I'm going to try 2460, 2520, and 2700 in the 22-250 with the Sierra 55 grain bullets that seem to work so well in that barrel. Try the Sierra #1365 in that Striker if it has the 12 twist barrel. The B/C computes out almost perfectly for the twelve twist.

Sorry,, went back and re-read my original post.... 43.1 of 4064 wouldn't even fit into the case.. it should have read 34.1!! See how easy it is to make mistakes that could have led to someone getting hurt..my sincere apologies to all. I never use ball powders went shooting in climates of extreme weather changes.. here in the Laurels mts of PA, it can be 85 in the summer and 20 below in the winter and with ball powders there is a massive difference in velocity. I've even noticed when participating in summer groundhog benchrest that 5 degree differences cause a point of impact difference when using ball powders in the 22/250... I actually had charts made for scope adjustments of these changes.. way to much work..switched to 4064 and never had a problem since..

3/8 or .36 group at 100 yards Iam ok with that. 50 gr v-max 36.3 gr varget didn't set up crono so no velocity thanks guys for all your info
