Leupold Window Mount-- quick check

I have the window mount on my gold ring spotter and have never been impressed by it, so I fired off an email to leupold and the response i got was then are unsure if it is working properly and to send it in. I dont want to send it if I dont have to. So the deal is i have to crank the gimbal screw down pretty tight to have it support the weight of the scope. Almost all the way cranked and even then the spotting scope swivels and moves very easily. Is this normal???
