leupold vx5hd wind plx fire dot

I was recently checking out the exact same idea, from my discussions with a local shop I was told you could do a reticle swap for around $140-$170 through Leupold.

Is this the "fire dot reticle" that's been all the rage?
Can the fire dot be turned off, or does it always glow?

It can be turned off. If left on it turns itself off after a period, and a motion sensor in the scope turns it on when the scope moves.

I don't use the dot much, but it's pretty nifty - I leave it set really low, in the daylight I don't even notice it, but when it gets dark I can see an aimpoint when the crosshairs have disappeared.

If this is the combo you need, make sure you get the firedot ret and upgrade to the windplex. Im not sure the reverse is possible.

Thus buying a scope with the fire dot, and having Leupold add the windplex for a surcharge.

Given the illuminated options (TMOA, Impact) on the VX6HD, I think this 'mod' only makes sense on a VX5HD
