I picked up my 300 NMI today and while it shoots much softer than I anticipated I think I am still going to buy a self timing brake for it. I've always just had my gunsmith build and profile a traditional brake but I want to try something more effective for this one.

My main goal is maximum recoil reduction. If I'm gonna live with a brake I want it to be the most effective available. So far I have looked at the following:

  • SRS TI Pro 3 ST
  • APA Little B 4 port
  • Ryan Pierce 5 port muscle brake
  • Area 419 Hellfire
Any recommendations from the ones above or others I should consider?

5 port Beasts - CFII matches a .900" muzzle of a common Palma/HV barrels, Beast II is 1", and the Super Beast II is for 1.250" straight barrels:

I already bought the Super Beast for my 30-338LMI project, will end up on the front of a 30SM in the mean time.

The old JP tank brake still works, just looks goofy:

Direct size comparisons of JP, A419 Hellfire, APA Bastard, Super Beast. These are all off because I'm actually using an EC Tuner brake currently.

From your list, I like Ryan's 5-port muscle brake.

I have a SRS Ti Pro 3 on a 6.5lb(bare) 338 and it does a fantastic job. They also offer larger more ports brakes. Their design does a great job on both recoil and blast to the shooter. Look at them on the rokslide link already posted.

My second choice would be Ryan's. I do not like large slab brakes unless it's absolutely necessary.

How do you like the brake performance on the EC tuner+brake? Considering switching to one on one of my rifles.

I don't have either yet but I'm a fan of the designs by Muzzle Brakes and More, specifically the Ti version.

I'm going to give the EC tuner brake a try on my 7 SAUM. It's just a little more recoil than I like in a light weight rig to for precision shooting and the upper node where I'm at isn't as accurate as the lower but it's close enough. Hoping this will bring it in.

The TI Pro 3 is what I have been leaning toward based on reviews on Rokslide and LRO.

I'll be interested to see your results with the tuner brake.

Looks like you blended the nut on the one on the carbon barrel. My main concern with the TI3 was the diameter which will be .100" larger than the diameter of my barrel.

Are yours direct thread on or are they self timing?

Both. I exclusively use the 3/4x24 on any 300WMs and 30 Nosler, they are direct thread, the rest are 5/8x24 ST

On a couple I never bother to blend them.

TI-Pro 3 for me also. The direct thread models will blend in nicely on a Proof sendero barrel. I have one on my 300 Norma Imp. and it's a joy to shoot pushing 215 Berger's 3150.
