I met the guy that builds these rifles at the PNW Sportsman's Show and really liked his work, and am looking in to having him build me a rifle in either 300 or 338 RUM. I am just currious if anyone has had a rifle built by this guy and what your experiences are. thanks!

I don't have any experience with them, but it looks like they make some pretty sweet shooting irons

Yes...I have two LPRs...I've known Dallas since he was just out of high school...great guy. My first is the Lane Precision Rifle with serial #3 in 300 RUM. It wears a 28" heavy contour Bartlein barrel...I've made shots to a mile with it, and that is my first custom rifle ever. Liked it so much that I just had LPR build a 280 Ackley Improved mountain rifle with 26" fluted barrel that I've had for 2 weeks. Just shot a .240" group at 100 yards with 168 gr LRABs at 2950 fps. And that's out of a rifle that you can pack all day. Because LPR is not well known yet, his prices are the best in the industry. But when his business receives name recognition, you know what will happen. If I were you, I'd get that rifle ordered ASAP. In fact, that's exactly what I did! Less than 2 months turn around time, all to my custom ordered specs. Best deal out there for the dollar, IMHO.

I don't claim to be any long range expert....before having LPR build this 300 RUM for me, I thought 300 yards was a really long shot...here's a Youtube video of a 1477 yard shot with the 300 RUM that LPR built for me...I wasn't really trying to make the shot as much as I was just trying out the new 32x camcorder...

Lane Precision Rifles!!! Yep I know of him. I met Dallas about 2 years ago to discuss a build I was interested in. 5 months later I had my custom 300 Ultra in my hands, 28" Hart, Manners, Jewell, Seekins Mag system, NF, all on my 700 action that he worked over. I loaded up a ladder and hauled *** out to the desert so I could try this bad boy out. After every shot all I could do was smile, this thing is amazing! It shoots 3" groups consistently at 880 yards with 230 Berger's. I love this rifle so much that I turned around and ordered a big 338 Edge on manners T5A, Hart, Jewell, ATACR, and again 700 action. About 4 months later I had this bad boy in my hands and WOW!!! This thing is amazing!!! Bet you wouldn't guess but yeah, I ordered another rifle, this time ultra light 6.5-284 Norma. Now I can go on all night long about these rifles but I will just cut to the chase. I have in my safe 5 customs from Dallas. 300 RUM, 338 EDGE, 6.5-284, 300 RUM, and the most recent a 300 Norma mag on a deviant action. I have shot several of his rifles and it is hard to get one to shoot larger than 1/4 moa @ 100. I have made shots all the way out to 2410 yards with the big Edge and many shots in the 1100 to 1600 yard range with all of the other rifles except for the 300 Norma because I havent been able to get out with it yet due to the wonderful weather here in Idaho. Dallas has far exceeded all of my expectations and has earned a customer for life. If you are thinking about building one with him then I would say you making a very wise choice. If you have any questions feel free to ask me, I will share any and all information about the rifles I have had build from him.

Below is a link to Lane Precision Rifle's website. In the Galleries Shooting section, the second photo of the 3 shot group at 1,000 yards is mine, done during initial load work up and validation. I'm sure not implying that I can do that very often at that distance, but it does give an indication of what these rifles are capable of under the right conditions.

The snow finally melted enough for me to get out and shoot my new LPR "classic" hunting style rifle in 280 Ackley at some real distance today. First chance I've had to validate my data. Smacked a softball sized rock 3 times in a row with ease....at 643 yards. Not bad for a 26" barreled rifle that's light enough to carry all day, not to mention affordable.

Finally got a chance to get out and shoot the LPR Ultimate 300 Norma mag. 3gr difference from start to finish on the ladder and it still grouped 4.2"@500 yards!

Yesterday we couldn't set up a target in the field that we usually use for LR shooting because all the rain and melted snow turned it into a swamp. So I had to shoot my LPR 300 RUM at the 2 foot square steel plate that was standing all the way across the field...at 1,555 yards. Its painted fluorescent orange with a 5 inch black bull. Fired 4 230 grain Bergers and hit the plate each time. The closest hit to the bull was maybe 2 inches off the black. 3 shots formed what looked like a 9" group to the right of the bull and one hit about 4 inches left of the bull. I don't have a photo to post because I would have needed a motor boat to get there! Not bad considering my limited ELR shooting skills and the swirling wind conditions.

I got out today and validated my 168 gr LRAB load in my new Lane Precision Rifle in 280 AI for the first time at some distance. I was not disappointed, and took some video of it. The first link shows the lightweight LPR rifle I recently had built in 280 AI...nothing fancy as I am into function over frills (plus I'm cheap), but LPR can dress one up any way you like it. The second link shows the 762 yard shots filmed at 32X in HD. Some clarity is lost with the YouTube upload, but you'll get the point---these rifles shoot. Even though this rifle is not technically an extreme long range rifle in terms of configuration or caliber, I am planning to test her at over a grand this weekend to see what she can do....
