I Know this may be corny but I thought it would be interesting to see the results. Here's the question:

Knowing what we know today about ballistic coefficient, wind drift, etc...
What pre 1980's off the shelf, factory form cartridge would you be using today if those were your only choices.

264 win 7mm rem 300 win 280 rem

You should do a poll as you did in your brake or not brake a 9 lbs rifle post.
 
Is this hypothetical based on modern bullets available now, or what was available at the time? Looks like we can pick more than one so I'd go:
264 Win for medium size game and
300 Bee for the bigger critters
