Knee pain options

Get a proper exam.
Stop running. Swim, row or bike for your aerobics. Warm up before full on activity.
Put weight in a back pack instead of carrying it in an awkward position. Stay on level ground for a couple weeks.
Freeze water in small styrofoam cups. After your workout and shower, score/cut the the styrofoam to expose about 1" of ice. Continually move the ice all over your knee (towel underneath to absorb runoff). Do this for about 5 minutes. Your skin will be red and cold. As long as the ice is moving you will be fine......do not be stupid about this. Self inflicted frostbite is frowned upon.
This will minimize inflammation. The styrofoam insulates and is a comfortable handle. I learned this trick from my PT rehabbing from a shattered patella and torn patella tendon. 6 months 3 x week..
Ibuprofen and whatever anti-inflammatories you can handle are your friend. Pain free exercise. If it hurts, stop.
As a retired architectural blacksmith my professional opinion is your knee issue(s) is more likely tendonitis rather than a major structural thing. If you have not knowingly injured your knee previously, and you being 30, my metalworking background rules out osteoarthritis.
See an orthopedistt. If not, call me in the morning.
deepwater

What he says, X 2 on the bike. Quit running and bike. Ice, Ice, and ice, go easy on the ibuprofen as it hard on the kidneys. But you will need something to get the inflammation out. I'm 60 with multiple knee and feet issues. Was told the knee had to have surgery by the time I was 25, still putting it off. I'm taking turmeric curcumin compelx. I did 3 mountain elk hunts and a mule deer hunt with minimal pain. And I'm not small super fit guy at 5'11" and 240 lbs. Read up on the research using cinnamon and natural honey for inflammation. Nor am I a health nit, but the Good Lord provides for all we need in His creation, the natural stuff works for me well.

Get your doc to refer you to an orthopedic surgeon and have them check you out. I have osteoarthritis in both knees and get Orthovisc shots which help a lot.

Drop the fancy anti inflammatory meds they are BAD JU-JU! If your gut can tolerate ASPIRIN it is the best and only thing to take for a host of reasons. DRINK MORE WATER! 1/2 CUP and no more every hour that you are awake! Peeing is great for your body!
Ditto: on shoe/insole swap out every three months.
Use treking poles. I use my cross country ski poles since I usually hunt on Ski! I use a Pulk to carry my gear o(than my rifle which is on my back on a BIATHLON Sling) haul the meat out.
Get a professional evaluation of your walking and running gate; some shoe stores (ask around running clubs) do the evaluations for free or minimal cost.
Swim instead of run for your aerobics. Do a ladder 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and back down. You can build into that by adding to the ladder top distance as you can untill you get to 500...No Slacking!
BOSU Ball BURPIES GOOGLE THEM. 10X3
Get a Certified Personal Trainer to evaluate your imbalanced musculoskeletal system.

How can he say all that? I'll be 71 this January have no joint pain. BMI is 19.4 and I do all the above and more.

So I'm about 40 days out from a Aoudad sheep hunt in west Texas and I'm doing what I can to stay in shape with a pretty good work out consisting of 9 (3 sets of 3) 100 yard uphill(run uphill and walk downhill) sprints with a set of 10 push ups between each sprint and a set of flutter kicks every third sprint. So 9 uphill sprints, 100 push ups, 3 sets of flutter kicks in about 25 minutes followed by going up and down that same hill carrying a 45 pound rock 3-4 times over my head so another 20 minutes. Seems to be a pretty good mix of cardio and strength training but...

I don't actually enjoy the above mentioned workout what I actually enjoy is running which is also the only thing that seems to work for weight loss for me. Here's the problem any more than about 2 miles of running and I won't be able walk the next day due to knee pain. So my question is what kind of knee stuff have folks done. I'm only 30 and while I wasn't exactly nice to my knees in my 20s I have a hard time believing they're already gone. I went to the doc once about it and they came up with physical therapy and an appearance that nothing was wrong. What do you guys think? A second opinion? What types of knee surgery have folks gone through? Any info at all?

Good point. The pain is generally in my right knee though I've had more mild pain in the left. Basically it tends to want to stop bending with the pain primarily in the front lower quarter of the knee. Almost feels like on the edge of the knee cap on the bottom outside edge.Guess I wasn't looking for to much deep medical advice since I'll let a doc do that but I was starting to think about what might be ahead of me after my January hunt.
I have the same issue. Mine is a damaged patellar tendon. Feels like bottom left corner of knee cap is on fire sometimes. From what I have been told hard core physical therapy is all that really helps. Short heavy sets of hack squats has been good for me. However progress is slow.

Hey sounds almost identical to myself I'm 38 abused my knees pretty good in my late teens and twenties jogging lots and jumping off things I shouldn't have been skiing now I get a fair amount of pain in my knees trying to jog so I've given it up I've gone to the doctors even got into a specialist and was told everything looks normal so now instead of jogging I hike a lot with weight wearing the best hiking boots/ shoes I can afford and better than hiking I bought a stationary bike which really helps to strengthen the muscles around the knees without any impact damage like you get from jogging also doing squats with your back up against a vertical wall with a ball in between your back and wall points your toes in a bit or out depending what side of your quad you wanna work out.... hope this helps good luck!

After 6 knee surgeries, I just had to throw my opinion out there. Have you worked with a good physical therapist? It helped me. Also, have you tried braces? BetterBraces.com has kept my going for years.
Your running days may be over. Mine sure are. I work on concrete floors all day. The boots I wear and the inserts in them make it less painful. For me, at least, no one thing fixed the problem.
Bottom line, MRI. It will tell you and a physical therapist what's going on.
Hope you get relief and have a great hunt!

I had a lot of aches and pains in my spine and pelvis and joints in them from an accident I was in a in 2015. My uncle told me about a supplement he takes for joint pain that worked wonders for him. I tried it and a natural anti inflamatory/ pain supplement and they worked wonders for me too. I felt notacable results in 2 days and like a new man in a week. The two supplements that I take are called: Joint Advantage Gold and Tumeric Curcumin Complete. They are available at drwilliams.com

Might be worth checking out for you. Good luck,

Kyle

I've dealt with knee pain all my life, and the best thing I've tried is daily doses of glucosamine. I was to the point I had to wear knee braces any time I did something athletic, after starting in glucosamine, I don't even know where my braces are! Also, pay attention to .your shoes. Go to a running store and have your gait tested. You may be pronating in your stride, which will cause knee pain as well. The right shoes will help with that.
