Is it legal to just shoot on public land in south dakota?

Just curious; is it legal to set steel out on public land for half a day and ring it? I may be going to out to South Dakota this early summer and if possible, id like to get some long range target shooting in.

Yes it is. When I lived up there I used to go out on the Buffalo Gap Nat'l Grasslands east of Oelrichs and shoot all the time. The two tracks out there are mainly bentonite and other types of clay so try not to get caught out there in a rain. Basically don't litter, shoot the cattle or start fires and have a good time are the rules out there
